Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ms. Very entertaining and creative

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a Bad Start Don of the Dead is Daniels first Pepper Martin story. It has a little of everything...mystery, action, humour, paranormal, and a little (a really little) romance. Pepper is a tour guide at an historic Cleveland cemetery, a job she's been forced to take when her upper middle class surgeon father is sent to prison for embezzlement and her society-conscious fiance dumps her. After a bump on the head, Pepper meets Gus Scarpetti, the former head of a local crime family who died over 30 years ago. Scarpetti, the ghost, pesters Pepper until she finally decides to help him solve his murder in front of a Little Italy eatery decades before. The quest brings her two new sexy men in her life, quite a bit of danger, and more information than she ever wanted to know about the Scarpettis. Pepper is a realistic character. She's a great combination of empathy and sass, making the best of a bad situation. The men that enter her life are like polar opposites, but equally likeable. The overall story is cute, but you may be disappointed if you actually like a little mystery with your mystery (the answer to the big question of who killed Gus Scarpetti practically flashes in neon). All in all it was a pretty good read. I liked it enough to give the second book, The Chick and the Dead, a try.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fun Paranormal Tale After getting a bump to the head on the corner of a mobster's tombstone, Pepper can suddenly see the dead mobster, and it turns out that even the dead can make you an offer you can't refuse. Now she's trying to figure out if she's crazy (and is the hot neurologist really hitting on her?), involved in a murder investigation (and is the hotter cop hitting on her?), or just plain in over her head (and is the dead mobster hitting on her?) Fun and light, this was a one-evening read for me, and made me giggle out loud. Pepper is a great heroine, and her reactions to seeing dead people are amusing. And there's a mystery involved that leaves you pleasantly engaged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't stop! Waiting for the next one! Hey I bought this book today and finished it today! It was a great book and had everything in it I like. A mystery with a paranormal bend, a women star, and an exciting conclusion with a hint of more to come in the future. Hope I don't have to wait too long for it to arrive. Pepper Martin was an interesting character and I hope to learn more about her. The author left the future of her relationships with Dan (The Brain Man) and Quinn (the cop) open and I can't decide which I am voting for without learning more about them. Gus was great and I will miss him, but I am also waiting to see what the story is with the young women with the poodle skirt.
