about

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night aren't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mysterious, suspenseful Not the type of book JLA usually writes. It wasn't really my thing but still very interesting. I found some of the characters to be lacking and not as vivid and relatable as they usually are. But still, JLA writing is amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible!! A Must Read <3 !! WOW !! This book was wonderful! Jennifer has been on my author to read list, and I was not disappointed! Her writing is witty and funny, clever and hip to the hop. This book kept me engaged from start to finish and I definitely am Team Carson. I loved that it was a murder mystery starting with the first page. I enjoyed that Sam was struggling the whole book to get her memories back, it was frustrating and enlightening. I enjoyed that she changed so much and into a better person after the accident. It was beautifully written and I can't wait to read more of Jennifer's books especially her series!!! Also this cover is amazing! Definitely a must read novel !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I am so happy I picked this book up because I needed some Jennifer Armentrout in my life. I am absolutely blown away by how amazing this book is! I think it by far her best book so far. Her writing is at its best, the characters are all distinct and developed, and the mystery plot was so well crafted. This book follows Samantha as she wakes up covered in blood and bruises and doesn't remember what happened. Her and her best friend Cassie go missing, but only Samantha is found. The rest of the book follows Samantha trying to remember what happened to piece together where Cassie is. Usually with mystery books like these or some piece of the story is missing and when you get that piece it is usually a disappointment, but I was NOT disappointed. Armentrout crafted a fantastic mystery plot, while weaving the perfect amount of romance. I loved every scene her brother Scott is in. He was the typically protective brother, but with a comedic air. If you're looking for a fun mystery look no further because Don't Look Back has it all!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A creepy and great new novel! Don’t Look Back is about Sam, a girl who mysteriously disappeared for three days, and then returns with no recollection of her life. She doesn’t recognize her friends, her family and even her house. But Sam’s not the only one who’s disappeared, her best friend Cassie is still missing and it’s up to Sam to figure out what happened to Cassie, and to herself. While the mysterious elements surrounding Cassie and Sam’s disappearance was not very mind-blowing, I just loved how everything played out and my mind was still reeling. The plot was very fast-paced and action packed. There was something going on every second of the book, there was never a dull moment! One of my favourite parts of Don’t Look Back was seeing Sam deal with her memory loss, and having to rediscover herself and her family. It was interesting to read how her life changed after she came back and seeing her develop as a new person. Amnesia is a hard topic to read about, I mean, imagine losing all of your memories and not knowing who you are, and I loved reading how it was handled in Don’t Look Back. Another element of the book that I loved was the romance. Carson is just one swoony dude and gahh the romance was adorable. I just want to squish the main characters together! Overall, Don’t Look Back was really fast-paced and action packed and definitely swoony! My only grievance is that I guessed the big twist right away. However, the details of how it was revealed-what happened next still had me reeling! I highly recommend it for people looking for a great mystery and suspenseful novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't Look Back A really cool mystery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thrilling! This book was beyond creepy and Jen did an amazing job creating the characters and the plot! Don't Look Back was definitely a book that will pull you in because of the characters and what happened to Sam. After 4 days they find Sam wondering on the road and she cant remember her name or who her family is, friends and even her boyfriend. This book is definitely full of twists and turns even some shocking events! Don't Look Back was a thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. There was a lot of "what is happening right now" moments, all in a positive way. There was so much romantic scenes or what Jen will use is a lot of tension. It had strong characters that Armentrout uses with her same fun, wit and even mysterious works (totally not like all of her other books) but you will definitely fall in love with Carson!! I would totally want a do-over but it does not have to involve what Sam goes through. After being found Sam does the best she can to piece together the night she went missing, at the same time make amends for all she did to everyone at school. This includes her twin brother Scott, Julie, and Carson. She does try with her mom but there is a lot of strain in their relationship. A long time ago Sam and Carson were best friends, but since high school she discovers that things change and she then starts hanging with Cassie and Del (boyfriend). By the time the "night" happens, people make fun of Carson for being the help. As she starts to remember what happened and the kind of person she was, Sam wasn't the nicest person around and the world isn't perfect. Truths will be revealed with dangerous and heartbreaking results. This book will keep you hanging! I loved Sam's relationship with Carson because it is so different and it flows way better than her boyfriend Del who is a tool. Carson is a person who Sam can go to her problems with and help her. He gives her a second chance even if she might not deserve it during this time. Don't Look Back was definitely gave me the chills after reading it and maybe throw away my music box ....

Editorial Reviews

Samantha has been missing for days. When she reappears, her entire life seems new, leaving her with many more questions than answers. Her parents, friends, and boyfriend all expect the old Sammy, but the new Sammy is nowhere near the same person. Sammy learns the horrible truth about herself: she used to use her popularity and wealth to control and manipulate everyone. To make matters worse, Cassie, Sammy's best friend, went missing the same day as Sammy, and she is still missing. Most will not admit it, but Sammy feels their stares and is able to read between the lines: they blame her for Cassie's disappearance. Armentrout leaves the reader with many questions: Will Sammy ever recover her memories? Who is to blame for Cassie's disappearance? Did Sammy hurt her friend? The first-person narrative gives a glimpse into the intense frustration that goes along with memory loss. Sammy shares each of her personal struggles with the reader. After every question and with each clue she finds, the reader partners with Sammy to piece together her discombobulated life. Anyone who picks up this book will develop a close relationship with Sammy, leaving the reader fully invested in the character and the mystery. Sprinkled throughout the story, profanity and flirtation make the dialogue and relationships more realistic. Armentrout tastefully develops love scenes, which may cause the reader to fail to realize the extent of what just occurred. With an unexpected and a little over-the-top resolution, Don't Look Back will keep the reader guessing until the very last page.-Richard Vigdor.-VOYA
