From #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs comes the first thrilling* novel in the Hurog duology.

Most everyone thinks Ward of Hurog is a simple-minded fool—and that’s just fine by him. But few people know that his foolishness is (very convincingly) feigned. And that it’s the only thing that’s saved him from death.
When his abusive father dies, Ward becomes the new lord of Hurog...until a nobleman declares that he is too dim-witted to rule. Ward knows he cannot play the fool any longer. To regain his kingdom, he must prove himself worthy—and quickly.
Riding into a war that’s heating up on the border, Ward is sure he’s on the fast track to glory. But soon his mission takes a deadly serious turn. For he has seen a pile of magical dragon bones hidden deep beneath Hurog Keep. The bones can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and Ward is certain his enemies will stop at nothing to possess them...
Patricia Briggs is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series and the Alpha and Omega novels.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Love Patricia Briggs, just not this book I really enjoy the Mercy books by Patricia Briggs so I thought I would give this book a try. I did not enjoy it and found it a bit slow. I had to force myself to finish. I did buy the second book in the Dragon series but sent it to my brother. He enjoys the more hard core fantasy books and I think that he may enjoy the read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A well told Fantasy tale with a refreshingly new character... A unique hero makes this tale really spark - the heir to a territory, the main character is a large, strong man who would be a threat to his abusive father, so he fakes mental deficiencies to remove himself from his father's point of view. When his father dies, however, our hero has done such a good job of faking being an idiot that no one will take him seriously, and he finds himself having to fight for the right to keep his ancestral land - something he's not even sure he wants in the first place. The magic is fresh and good, the tale is dark and has a solidly written setting. It is a duet - followed by 'Dragon Blood' - but stands alone well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dragon Bones This was a great read. It has all the right elements... good plot with some interesting twists, excellent character development with the story told mostly from the protagonists point of view, but including enough other points of view to give a well rounded story, and a good description of the setting. I have already ordered the next book, and plan to read more from Patricia Briggs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Simply put, it was quite refreshing from other storylines I have been getting used to. Plot was amazing, characterization was nicely done but most of all, storytelling was refreshing.
