about

The clan is waking. After centuries of spellbound sleep, dragon-shifters are returning to the mountains. They are few in number, and the outside world has become overrun with humans. Huroth, the dragon chieftain, recognizes a need for his kind to adapt, by forming alliances and mate-bonds with humans, but his clan is divided. From the first time she meets him, Lady Orwenna is drawn to the magnificent chieftain. The mind link he forms with her is both fascinating and frightening, as is the powerful attraction she feels for him. If only she knew what was in his heart. Does he want her for the woman she is, or for her magical abilities? When war breaks out between kingdoms and ancient enemies of the dragons resurface, the clan will be tested. In the midst of uncertainty, can Huroth and Orwenna find their way together?

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dragons and magic… Oh how the mighty fall in the face of love After being frozen in suspension for eons dragons are back in the world and Orwenna has a connection to one. She dreams of them nightly. Orwenna’s bold and outspoken where women are expected to be biddable and meek. Left to her own devices she’s managed her family estate alone for years and yet she is nothing but chattel in the scheme of things. She is her father’s to award in marriage to whomever he pleased. Well Orwenna wasn’t so accepting of his dictates so off she ran to find her own path in life. And where better than with the dragon she met years ago and dreams of nightly. Huroth is chieftain of his clan of dragon shifters. After a brutal war and an enchanted sleep he is awakened from his cold slumber. His clan is decimated and few. Huroth knows they need allies and mates with magic in their blood to continue their race. He aligns his clan with the human realm of Rhelaun promising to come to their aide in times of need in exchange for the King’s daughter as a dragon wife. Years will pass before this marriage will come to be as the princess is but a child when the alliance is made. But there is one in the Rhelaun court that captures his attention with her witchy abilities. Their connection is instant but left to simmer over the years. War comes to Rhelaun. The dragons are called. Orwenna and Huroth are reunited. This time she is no longer a crushing adolescent but an adult whose desire sizzles. Huroth finds her irresistible. As their adventure progresses desire builds, love blossoms and trust grows. But is it enough trust to ensure Orwenna will choose to stay with Huroth as his mate? Enemies old and new as well as a skeptical clan provide plenty of challenges. This was a good read with solid writing. The story was a little slow in the beginning but certainly picked up along the way as the action started to heat up. The heat level is more on the sweet to sensual side. If you’re looking for dragon shifters, magic and love look no further. Review copy provided via Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.
