The Death Gate Cycle

Ages ago, sorcerers of unmatched power sundered a world into four realms—sky, stone, fire, and water—then vanished. Over time, magicians learned to work spells only in their own realms and forgot the others. Now only the few who have survived the Labyrinth and crossed the Death Gate know of the presence of all four realms—and even they have yet to unravel the mysteries of their severed world. . . .

Dragon Wing

In Arianus, Realm of Sky, humans, elves, and dwarves battle for control of precious water—traversing a world of airborne islands on currents of elven magic and the backs of mammoth dragons. But soon great magical forces will begin to rend the fabric of this delicate land. An assassin will be hired to kill a royal prince—by the king himself. A dwarf will challenge the beliefs of his people—and lead them in rebellion. And a sinister wizard will enact his plan to rule Arianus—a plan that may be felt far beyond the Realm of Sky and into the Death Gate itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book!! I had gotten this book as a present for my 18th birthday(1995). But was not much of a reader at the time. So I did not start reading it until a few years later. I could not put the book down and had to get the rest of the books in the series. It is a great read, has a great story and has a diverse amount of characters. I highly recommend this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Death Gate Cycle Series I honestly have to say that while I like fantasy/fiction, there are very few books that ever grab me. The worlds and characters of the Cycle are among the very few that have remained in my mind long after reading them. While it's been years since I've re-read them all, I do find myself sitting and thinking of those magic places still, from time to time...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Death Gate The beginning of a very complex series, this is an interesting and compelling book. I say compelling because I couldn't put it down until the last page had been devoured! If you like fantasy and are a fan of Weis and Hickman, you will like this. Excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Death Gate Cycle In the past, the Sartans split the world into four parts — sky, stone, fire and water — and imprisoned their life long enemies, the Partans, in the labyrinth. On Arianus, the sky world, the Mench (elf, dwarf, and human) fight for possession of the limited water that the realm possesses. Haplo escapes the labyrinth and travels through death’s gate in his quest to conquer the Arianus for his master. This book is a great introduction to a wonderful series, filled with dragons and sorcery. A must read for fans of Weis and Hickman.
