Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fresh coat of paint on an old favourite! As a playtester of what would eventually be the 5e ruleset, I was very excited to see what the published end result would look and play like. WotC has done their usual superb publishing job. The materials are stunningly rendered and gorgeous. The starter adventure "Lost Mine of Phandelver" is a great first look at what are some desperately-needed and brilliantly-executed rules updates. Combat is more streamlined, allowing for encounters to be resolved significantly faster (if desired - you can still drag combat out if you really want to), with most game mechanics being simplified and/or clarified for ease-of-play. Many old-school pen'n'paper gamers were not thrilled with 4e, but I think 5e will bring them back around.
