about

Please, please, please, can I? Please let me go, I will be careful, I’ll dress warm and I’ll listen.

My friend Alice as I will call her for this storey, is going out for the Easter weekend on the sea ice. Her family is travelling with two skidoos and two Komatiks to hunt seals on the long weekend; I have been invited to come along. This would be my first experience of hunting /camping on the frozen Ocean with no trees. I wonder how we will hunt the seals; do they snare seals, like we did with rabbits in Good Hope?

My father finally relents, extracting promises from me regarding listening to my elders and making sure that I cover my face and wear my snow goggles. (The wooden carved ones that tie around my head with a caribou hide thong)
