Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the Right Stuff! I just finished reading this book for the second time. I had read it when it first came out and then read it again for our book club. I found this to be a very engaging and enjoyable story. Our unwitting hero, Gabriel Roberts, is immediately thrust into the limelight by unexpected, fantastic circumstances that send him on a fast-paced adventure. The plot twists are just plausible enough and the setting includes sufficient recognizable geographical and political signposts that the story is not sacrificed on the altar of deep background. Avoiding this common pitfall of many Fantasy/Science Fiction stories allows the author to deliver his tale with lots of action and drama. Eden’s Ore, Secrets delivers just the right mix of tension, intrigue and heroics. Very enjoyable. Can’t wait for the next adventure from B.V. Bayly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from only half way through but dying to find out what happens! currently reading the kindle version - just about half way through and its a really good read - it grabs you at the start and quickly turns into a whole different story that maybe you were not expecting! but just as good and keeps it as a great page turner I cannot wait to see where it ends up. I would say science fiction as a genre however there is much more to it than that - I would certainly give this new author a try as if this is his first book I cannot wait for the 2nd, 3rd and onwards! I will be adding this author to my reading list!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the read! The first chapter had me hooked. I love a book that opens with action and intrigue. Already my mind was racing ahead trying to figure out where the story was going to go. I felt like it took a few chapters to establish the background, and I was tempted to skim them since they felt a little slow compared to the first. I’m glad I persevered though because the story really picks up again. If you need a bathroom break, take it around chapter five because once you get past there, you won’t want to put the book down. The main character, Gabriel, was a surprise. I knew from the back of the book that he was going to have a freak encounter with “Eden’s Ore” but what I didn’t expect was how that would change him. He begins the novel as a 20 year old farm kid with no sense of direction and ends up being forced into a hero role with a clear sense of direction. A very clear sense. He takes it on rather begrudgingly at first and we get to witness his personal growth. There are, of course, a few other subplots going on during the course of the novel, but in my opinion it all comes down to the classic good versus evil. Naturally I root for the good side to win, but with this journey it was never clear who was going to remain standing at the end. There is more-than-adequate resolution for this story, but the author has clearly set us up for the next book. And maybe more after that? I shed a few tears at one point – a pretty good sign that I was actually engaged with the characters and I look forward to seeing where they all are at the beginning of book two. Bottom line: I saw this whole book play out in my mind like a movie. The blend of the story and the way it was told made for fantastic action in my mind. I would love to see it on the big screen one day. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone looking to get their “toes wet” in the Sci-fi genre and to those that are already established fans. It does not disappoint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For YA The novel?feels like an origin story. Gabriel is thrust from the world he knows and into an unfamiliar one. We get to discover this new, slightly futuristic world alongside him and experience his emotional roller-coaster as if we were right there with him. Gabriel was described as (I think) an 18 or 19 year old but I always pictured him as a 14/15 year old the way he interacted with people and progressed through the story making be believe YA-Fans would like this book as well. Gabriel is given the role of a hero, one he?s uncertain of. He doesn?t know all the answers and each move he makes is being watched. I loved the uncertainty and the human aspect to this character. I?d recommend this to Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Entertaining and meaningful I am not someone who enjoys fantasy/scifi material – at all. So I was really surprised by how this book grabbed my attention right from the start and, more surprisingly, was able to keep it all throughout. This book is packed with exciting action and intriguing mystery, but there is also a great telling of relationships between characters. I loved when he described the futuristic technology, as he gives great detail so you can picture everything perfectly, but without getting too wordy or exhausting. This book is isn’t a difficult read and will definitely leave you wanting more. I I decided to give this book a try when it was suggested to me and I definitely suggest it to others. This book is deep as well at greatly entertaining. Can’t wait to read more from Bayly.
