Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you'll remember your own first love—and just how hard it pulled you under.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a Cliche This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm so glad she did! Rowell's characters display very humane qualities and faults, which makes them severely endearing and relatable. Their love story is not simple, and it is also not perfect (which is in turn perfect for anyone who is sick of cliche love stories but also has a sweet, irresistible side to it to appeal to the cliche-seekers).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was amazing, but.... I loved this book it made me so happy but the ending made me so mad, I did not like the way it ended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderfully Unique With an ending that I did not want to accept but a story that I could not resist, this book will take you back to the days when you thought love seemed so simple and remind you that it never is!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not that great This was in my opinion better than fangirl but still not wonderful and quite confusing at times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful One of the best books i've ever read. The only way i can describe my reaction to this book is a sentence, only three words long......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Teen angst in the 80's I loved this book about two kids from totally different walk of live. The only have Korean boy in the small midwest town and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. I also greatly enjoyed all the 80's references and comics. Was sweet and funny but also very serious. Addressing bullying, domestic abuse, sexual abuse and eating issues. I couldn't put it down and think it is a great book for seriously and accurately addressing real life issues and not sugar coating them. The ending though....definitely need a sequel!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good While I DID think this book was well-written and had a solid story line, i found that towards the end the characters were getting too repetitive and predictable. It was a basic story line that would be great for someone in 6th-9th grade. Overall, it was worth the read, but not worth a re-read. it was also a bit over hyped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVED IT I picked this book up from Chapters before leaving for a vacation. I can honestly say it was one of the best books I have read. It was a quick read, as I could hardly put the book down. Absolutely loved it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from average I was disappointed. I bought this book after all the hype surrounding it but I found the story to be very average

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple story - hard to put down Love this simple story - hard to not just read the whole thing at once. Great narration and really gets inside the story. Teen love this book - adults too who grew up in the 90's - I'm a secondary teacher and both males and females were drawn to this book - beautiful piece.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the hype Maybe it's because people were saying so many amazing things so my expectations were exceptionally high, but I found the story to be mediocre, the characters to be sorta plain, and overall thought it was a mediocre read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Lessons Teaches that it really is whats on the inside that counts. Whats on the outside plays only a small factor in discovering love, and may surprise how much you would do for love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Touched My Heart I read this book as a teen and fell in love with it. This book talks about the raw reality of love and life, that it is not perfect. If you have insecurities, dysfunctional family or even a lovable family, crush & love for music then you'll definitely relate to Eleanor & Park. #Plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Another Teenage Romance The book was an enjoyable read with a very sweet story. It wasn't the most interesting plot though and was just your typical teenage love story. Overall, I enjoyed it as a quick, cute book but wouldn't consider it outstanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great this book was great. I loved the story and the writing.
Date published: 2018-04-01
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay If you're looking for a swooning romance, this isn't the book. Eleanor and Park is a bittersweet, awkward but more realistic romance that doesn't give readers the dashing male lead that you'll fall in love with or the likable female lead that you'll relate with. That's why it didn't really resonate with me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Captivating Great story line, characters were likable however did not like the ending

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for me This book was so hyped up. It seemed like it was recommended by everyone and on so many must read lists. I got to say that I didn't love this book. The ending was not great, the whole story was just okay. I'm glad I read it but I just didn't love it that much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Conflicting feelings but I cried. I don't really know how to explain exactly how I feel about this but it made me cry and anything that makes me cry gets a 5 star. I thought it was pretty weird and confusing, no kidding, but it was also so captivating and emotional at the same time. Nothing like I've ever read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I had been looking forward to this book for awhile and I'm so happy I finally got a chance to read it! I found the characters to be very relatable and interesting for their own reasons. Once I began reading, I couldn't stop until I reached the end. One of my favourite Rainbow Rowell novels for sure!
Date published: 2017-12-19
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cringing to my death I had heard so many good things about this book, so perhaps I was going into it with too much high expectations. This book was just, in my opinion, horrible from start to finish. The characters (Eleanor in particular), were unrelatable and bland. She was annoying, he was too much of a pushover, it was just not what I had hoped for. I wouldn't recommend this for my dog, I would 10/10 recommend to use when starting bonfires.
Date published: 2017-12-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a pleasant read! Loved this book. It is just so genuine and pure that I cannot help but feel for the main characters. Truly a story I will cherish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO SO GOOD I had heard so many good things about this book before-hand and finally decided to read it myself. Literally no regrets. I finished this book in a record amount of time, it was written so well and the characters were amazing, every aspect of this book consumed me. It is such a good teen romance and by the end I was crying, I needed more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dissapointed i came into this book with such high expectations. they were not met up. the one thing that threw this entire book off for me was eleanor. she is probably one of my least favourite book characters of all time. she's like a kindergartener stuck in a sixteen year olds body. she didn't allow park's past to be the past. i think rainbow rowell is an amazing author but this book didn't do it for me.
Date published: 2017-11-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from loved this book made me cry because of how beautiful and compelling it was.
Date published: 2017-11-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Read I read this book a couple of years ago and it is still one of my favourites. It is an interesting spin on the average teenage romance novel. Honestly, it was an amazing read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute Really cute story but I feel as thought it lacked a climax. I was really waiting for something big to happen but was left a little bit disappointed. That being said, I still enjoyed the read. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've never read a book so quickly I don't know what makes this book better than all the other ones I've read but I fell in love from start to finish and I couldn't put it down. It's your teen love story but it touches something inside that made me really love the characters. I cried.
Date published: 2017-10-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really loved this! I think objectively the writing of this book could be a tad bit better, but I can't help but give it 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much. The courting between these two young teens is so relatable and brings you back to the hilarity and awkwardness of teenage dating.
Date published: 2017-10-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A mostly cute, breezy read Eleanor and Park is the kind of book I like to bring on a plane or train: it's comforting, sweet, cute, and easy to read. It's not anything you're going to have an existential crisis over or have to think too hard about, and it makes your heart all warm and fuzzy inside. Admittedly, calling Eleanor & Park "breezy" might seem a little callous, given Eleanor's horrible home life. But it's absolutely a book that holds your interest, and being YA, is fun and easy enough to speed through that you can knock it out during a plane ride or a VIA train trip (assuming you can cry silently, because this book will bring on some tears!) Park is adorable and kind, and Eleanor is strong and selfless. You will love them :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet and tender high school romance I bought this as a Christmas present for someone and they loved it. I couldn’t gift a book I hadn’t read myself, so I read it. In one night. Real-life stories aren’t really my genre, but somehow this one latched onto my heart and wouldn’t let go. Eleanor and Park are from two completely different worlds, but they couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Also the artwork inside the front and back covers of this exclusive special edition is phenomenal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT book so so so good. do yourself a favour and read it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book, Amazing Characters! All together, Eleanor & Park is an amazing book for both teens and adults who like the romantic/sad genre. Most of the character are lovable in their own weird ways, and some you'll have a strong hate towards (because not all people are ones you can love *cough* Richie *cough*, but it's good to add characters like that because it's true to the real world.) Very realistic, and very well written, IF you don't mind reading in the third person. In conclusion, Eleanor & Park is an awesome and quick read that I would recommend it to most people. Definitely would read it again in the future. Hope my review helped! :D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rainbow Rowell NEVER disappoints Bought this on a whim and so glad I did. This heartwarming book the challenges of two teens living two very different lives finding each other is beautiful. Eleanor is tough her life is always that the #$%^ end of the stick. She finds love but cannot understand why someone like Park would fall for her. It's like today's Sixteen Candles but real. I get why the end is the end and I realize authors do this but I really was left with .... what now? I've read this many times its endearing and sweet and a definite MUST read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Book But Have Read Better This Book had major hype and I'm not really sure why. The beginning was slow and took me awhile to get into it. I was an ok book about two teens that dont usually collide falling in love. It was ok but i'm not rushing to read Rainbow Rowell'e nect book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Book of Feels There is so much going on in this book, the story is very deep and heart-warming. I love the characters and how they grew throughout the story. I also can't stop thinking about the ending, and imagine what could happen after that! #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good! I loved this book. It was cute, and quirky, but also dealt with very realistic struggles. All of us will be able to relate to Eleanor or Park. Rowell also does a good job of recreating the feeling of a first love.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Semi-satisfying read I was very late on reading this, after I received a split opinion on it. I think it's a very typical teen romance with unconventional characters. Great book to have on the shelf, but definitely a one-time read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK the book started slow and pretty boring but the whole story was pretty good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Loved The Oddness Even though this book didn't fall under my usual reading list of cheesy summer romance novels, I thoroughly enjoyed the quirky characters and simple but witty writing style. A great read! Rainbow Rowell is fantastic at writing about the every day average and quirky teenager.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MADE ME CRY A RIVER Eleanor & Park is a love story like no other I've read so far in my life. Date published: 2017-07-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nothing special I don't see the big hype for this book. I find there are some unnecessary stereotypical slurs... it wasn't offensive but just left me stopping mid sentence like "really? you couldn't have come up with anything better than that?" I did however finish the book since I figured I read most of it so I might as well have.
Date published: 2017-07-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my favourite book! I love this book so much, I could re-read it a thousand times and never ever ever get tired of it. I don't know what it is exactly that made me love it so much, I just remember after reading it I sat back and felt so impacted. I tell all of my friends and family to read it when looking for a good book, it's definitely a must read in my eyes

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kinda Strange, Romantic, and Very High-School-Like (The Awkward Teenage Phase) I started reading this book because I enjoyed reading another book written by this same author (Rainbow Rowell) which was Fangirl. However, I was very surprised to see that this book took on a different turn. It was very quirky, odd, and very realistic as it described racism, stereotypes, awkward teenage phases, and some romantic scenes. However, I feel like it truly captured the way high schoolers and teenagers feel when they think they are in love but they are not. This book obviously had a lot of feeling put into it, and this is why Rainbow Rowell is so well-loved for her work, this book will not disappoint and be unlike any other romance novel you have ever read! Very unique and different! I only gave it 3 out of 5 stars because it is not my style or type of book due to the profanity, but it is very relatable and similar to teenage life with all the hormones, awkward phases and crushes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it! I read this in a day, it was such a cute story. Excited to read more of Rainbow Rowell as I never seem to be disappointed.
Date published: 2017-06-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from cute bit too hyped. their relationship seems unrealistic and frankly quite childish, but is also appropriate for the setting, as they are young high school kids in a YA novel. nonetheless, it was quite a heartwarming read. a forewarning: there are some cringe-worthy bits.
Date published: 2017-06-23
Rated 4 out of 5 by from i want more! In my sixteen years of existing here on earth, I have already read this book twice. And I have no regrets. Following Eleanor's weirdness and Park's awesomeness was really worth the late-night-reading and not-listening-to-the-class-reading. I loved how they fell for each other slowly and then all at once. I loved how Park faced Eleanor's problems with her. I loved how sexy and tender the words in this book were written together in the most beautiful sequence.I just wish Rowell provided more details about what happened to the both of them.
Date published: 2017-06-23
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had Me Screaming I enjoyed Eleanor and Park but I didn't like it as much as I liked Fangirl. I definitely related to Eleanor and felt for her considering the type of household that she came from and by the end of the book I wanted her stepfather to be run over because he was just a terrible character. The romance was kind of meh to be honest, like I could see where the attraction came from and the two of them liking each other but they just kind of jumped to "I love you" and it was like why? You don't even know each other well enough to be able to say that, why can't you just be like oh I really like you? And there were a few stereotypes that I could've definitely lived without but other than that it was an okay book, I'd read it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It didn't take me a year to read! I loved this book! It always takes me forever to read a book and I think it's because some don't pull me into the story very well. This one did pull me in and I enjoyed every page.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from B+ This novel was good but not super memorable. I do like Rowell's writing style, but some parts were a little cringe-worthy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quite good Quick read that deals with some important topics: abuse, poverty, bullying... I would recommend this to most teens/young adults.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from :/ overhyped.... plus it's too "cute" to the point of unrealistic. I can't see any of this happening so I can't relate, therefore it wasn't too good of a story. plus, i found the main characters annoying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A love story that's not too cheesy and just enough sad Eleanor's character faces many hardships and when she meets Park they fade away and focuses on him. This book is an accurate portrayal of teenage love, with angst and all. 10/10 would read again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I hate contemporaries but this I don't usually like reading contemporary novels but this one really touched me. You go, Rowell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super cute This is such a cute little teenage love story. I loved living vicariously through the main characters love for each other.
Date published: 2017-05-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Adorable Loved it mostly because the main characters and the romance they share is not the image of a picture-perfect, ideal teenage relationship. Along with all the cute and fuzzy, there are social issues that are highlighted. A great story with great writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eleanor and Park I love that their kind of accidental courtship happens through comic books and music, though I think what really stood out for me were Eleanor’s struggles at home economically and emotionally. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST BOOK HOLY CRAP RAINBOW ROWELL this book has the perfect mix or heartbreak, happiness, love, and sadness. i feel like this book is perfect in so many ways. for one if you want a cute love story your going to find it in this book. BUT its not an over the top ridiculous unrealistic love story. this book captures so many realistic things people deal with in their life and doesnt paint this unrealistic story. Sure i love the sappy love stories but sometimes its nice to relate to books and i feel like this book gives people a good relatable read.
Date published: 2017-05-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from if you are a hopeless romantic... this book is for you, i am not. its unrealistic, but i did enjoy the diversity between the two main characters (eleanor & park).
Date published: 2017-05-01
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blow one element out of proportion, and it ruins the novel. Eleanor's insecurities ruined this book for me. She will never believe that Park loves her, and she is always finding ways to switch his words around. She has absolutely no character development throughout the story, whereas Park is a different person by the end of the novel. I understand that the author may have been trying to shed light on girls' low self-esteem issues, but this was a bit too extreme. Also, this book can be racist at times, which I really did not like.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute I am really digging Rowell's writing style, it is simple and character driven and clever at times. This was a cute book, but I liked Fangirl more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Touching Wow... The relationship was so complicated, yet so simple. It is heartbreaking, yet touching. Their story was not very happy and jolly all of the time, it was an off and on thing. Some parts were sad and others sweet. Eleanor's and Park's lives are so different. The fact that Park loves Eleanor so much is really touching. They went through some rough times, too. The love between them was so close, yet so far. I recommend this book, definitely. A touching teenage romance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from this got to me This book honestly kind of got to me, like I had to stop reading it at one point because I was crying, like the stuff she was going through in her family, it became a little to much. The story itself is kind of calm in a sense. There's a lot of pop culture references. This isn't my favorite book by the author but it's still something you could put on your summer reads.
Date published: 2017-04-23
Rated 3 out of 5 by from confused with how i feel about this the relationship the two protagonists share with one another is truly adorable, however i felt that the story lacked and interesting plot, as much of the book had a plateau feel to it. not rainbow rowell's best work...
Date published: 2017-04-21
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I just don't get it I really don't get the big deal about this book. My biggest issue? If you are going to make pop culture references, at least get them right. Offense 1: There is no such thing as an infinity turtle in Super Mario. Offense 2: No real Doctor Who fan would say that they dressed as Doctor Who for Halloween. There is no Doctor Who. Offense 3: Bruce Banner becomes The Hulk. Bill Bixby does not. He just played The Hulk. This just smacks of trying too hard for me. Was not impressed

Rated 3 out of 5 by from High Expectations I had heard lots of praise for this book and my expectations were high. It was a decent enough story...but wasn't the best I've ever read. It's enjoyable, but not something I was able to relate to.
Date published: 2017-04-19
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cute characters, average read Too long with too little happening... I sense that people love it but it just wasn't for me. Some young adult novels can still be read in adulthood and enjoyed, this is not one of them in my opinion.
