How can a fairy's blessing be such a curse?

At her birth, Ella of Frell was given a foolish fairy's gift—the "gift" of obedience. Ella must obey any order given to her, whether it's hopping on one foot for a day or chopping off her own head!

But strong-willed Ella does not tamely accept her fate. She goes on a quest, encountering ogres, giants, wicked stepsisters, fairy godmothers, and handsome princes, determined to break the curse—and live happily ever after.

Junior Booklovers Contest Winner Katrina, age 14, Winnipeg, MBI have to say, of all the fantasy and fairytale books and stories that I have read, this one tops the list! Ella Enchanted is a beautifully and elegantly written adaptation of the classic Cinderella story, and really, I must say, it's the best one I've read so far.The traditional love story, when put into Gail Carson Levine's mind for fantasy, is put in a much more comical sense, and the characters are so lovable! I simply adore Prince Char - he really is charming - and like, the perfect guy! And I really admire Ella for being so heroic - I told you I liked heroes! This story, like most fairytales, has the perfect "happily ever after" ending and I love it! If anyone asked me for the perfect romantic fairytale, I would suggest this - wait, I already have!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Being a fairy is never easy. Since her birth, Ella of Frell has been the unfortunate recipient of an addled fairy's gift -- the "gift" of obedience. However, spunky Ella does not tamely accept her fate and embarks on a quest to break this curse once and for all! Ella Enchanted is a nice addition to every young reader’s collections.
