On steamy Pryan, never-ending sunlight and plentiful rain have created a jungle so vast that humans and elves dwell high in the trees and only dwarves live anywhere near the ground. From the treetops the aristocratic elves sell weapons to the other races, whose incessant warfare sends a steady steam of profits and essential resources skyward. Now, generations of dissent and race hatred will not heal -- not even under the threat of annihilation at the hands of legendary Titans. Armed with little more than their wits and prophecy, an elf, a human, and a dwarf must unite to try to save the world from destruction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Whole New World In this second volume of "The Death Gate Cycle", we are introduced to a whole new world. The depth that the authors create show just how talented they are. This book is more haunting than its preceding,"Dragon Wing", and has me looking to see what will happen next. The new characters introduced, get you wondering, just who were the Sartan, and why did they leave. The romance element in the novel, I have to admit, I thought it would be corny. However, I was happily surprised that they didn't become to mushy. In fact it added to the story, and suspense. This book also brought a tear to my eye at times, which shows just how much you get to know the characters. The bottom line is, if you enjoyed the first, "Elven Star" is sure to get you craving more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elven Star In this volume, Haplo travels to Pryan, a land where everyone lives in the foliage of the trees and the sun never sets. The Mench are constantly at battle, which suits Haplo, just fine. Weis and Hickman challenge the imagination as Haplo’s continues his quest to conquer the world on behalf of his master, Xar. The book introduces some wonderful characters, and deals with inter-species relations.
