Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen by Lauren Kate is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Slow-Paced and Action-Ridden Honestly regret picking up this series. If you're someone who, like me, can't start a series without finishing it, spare yourself the agony and don't read this. Nothing ever happens, and the love story is so cliché even a cliché-lover like myself can't stand it. The main character literally has no other interest aside from her boyfriend, if you can even call him that (they never talk except to get in fights and have heated make out sessions before he leaves her alone for weeks to pine over him). Rating this one star feels generous.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really enjoyed it I thought the book was slow at first, but gradually as I read I found it to be an amazing book with a great story line.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't Let me just say that I honestly thought I would like this book. I did not like it. It felt like twilight all over again. The main character was so childish and annoying . The love triangle is something that's getting old real quickly overall not a book id read or recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The movie trailer makes it look so good When books are made into movies I tend to watch the movie trailer to see if I think it is something I want to read. The trailer looked amazing! Sadly the book isn't the same. The beginning is so slow and when something does happen, it's over in a page. I will say that it does pick up by the end. Which was a god send or I wouldn't have finished the book. While it wasn't my favorite and I had trouble reading it, I realize it just wasn't my cup of tea. So if it looks good to you, read it. Just know it is mostly driven by description. I will not be finishing the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderfully Different, Dark and Rich I read this series years ago and it is still one of my favourites! The characters, settings and plot are so beautifully different and just perfect! You won't be able to put this book down! This series is one to read multiple times!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh This series is hands down my favorite series ever, but the first book "Fallen" isn't the best of books... I suggest you read it to continue the series though because books 3 and 4 are really good :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy read, young I think this book is best for teenagers, I found it a bit young for someone in their 20s. Still, it was fast-paced and kept my interest with a few good characters as well as some unexpected twists. I didn't feel the need to read the rest in the series, although again I am probably older than the intended target audience.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I bought this book a little while back because I thought the concept seemed interesting, but unfortunately I was disappointed. The beginning started off really slowly, and off the bat I couldn't really get into it. I didn't much care for the protagonist, she seemed whiny and like she couldn't do anything herself. The characters and plot line were pretty forgettable and the writing wasn't that great. Even the romance, which the book focused on was somehow cliche even with a somewhat fresh concept. It was just kind of a predictably mediocre YA romance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Actually Very Good I bought it and was a bit nervous about how it would be but it turned out to be so good! Thought it might drag out but was very well conceptualised. I instantly fell in love with Luce's character. Every character was perfect in their own way. Overall I would love to read it all over it again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG!!! i really enjoyed this book i never understood why some of my friends who also liked reading never liked this book and said it was boring when i thought it was far from it. i feel in love with the characters and i even ended up buying the mini series books that went along with the series because i liked the series so much and i never regret getting them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Plot I really liked the cover so I bought it, regardless of the reviews. It is a good novel to kill some time, but there's an entire series so you have to keep going because the story doesn't just end here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stunning Cover, and intriguing plot :) When I first read this book I loved it and upon re-reading this first novel I still really enjoy it. I thought the setting was really interesting and completely perfect for what the story was about. Swords and Cross is creepy, eerie, and yet ends up being home for Luce. I would give this a 3.5 stars! I really enjoyed the characters of Luce and Cam (even though there needs to be more said about this character..), Daniel is broody and secretive. Pen is such a great best friend to Luce, and I enjoy their just every day conversations. And I will say this series has some of the most gorgeous book covers in YA. This book got me hooked and made me want to continue this series!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Typical and predictable I will admit, I finished this book fast, but that because it was a very simple and quick read. I did not find the appeal however. It has the same storyline as the hundreds of books that hit the shelves after Twilight became popular. There just wasn't anything special about this one at all, the characters aren't particularly appealing, and it just seems like the author didn't put much effort or thought into it. The story isn't well developed. I do not recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good It's got a nice plot, really interesting, and some really lovable characters - that is, they are well developed. 8/10!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fallen Borrowed the series from my younger sister to kill time. The storyline is quite interesting, it's probably the only thing that kept me intrigued because it definitely couldn't have been the bad character development and dialogue

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book I bought this because the cover was pretty, the title seemed interesting and author's name was nice. It was a great decision because it was a good book and I don't know why it got so many bad reviews. I'm glad I decided to read it anyway and definitely recommend it if you are looking for a good supernatural novel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fallen (Fallen #1) by Lauren Kate I was really excited about reading Fallen, the cover is absolutely gorgeous and I just had to have it! Luckily I received an ARC, thanks to Random House Children's Books. This is another book that has had a lot of hype recently and, as with Hush Hush, it had a lot to live up to. I have read negative as well as positive reviews, so I went in with a completely open mind, and I wasn't disappointed. The story starts out a little slow at the beginning and not a lot really happens in the way of action until half way through the book. The days Luce spends at Sword and Cross reform school, where she has been sent after an incident with a fire, which killed her ex-boyfriend, does become a little repetitive and drawn out and all I really wanted was the story to get going. But I think the author was trying to set the scene, give us some really well developed characters and lots of suspense before revealing all. In retrospect, I liked this approach as sometimes a story can move along quickly but then have no depth at all. There are many characters in Fallen, all of which I think are really well rounded. Even those that are not the main focus still have their own story and you feel they are all central to Luce's life. Although none of the characters are particularly 'dangerous', there is a darkness about Daniel and Cam that is subtle but definitely there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Cliche of the Worst Kind 'DANGEROUS' girl meets 'DANGEROUS' guy at a reform school. Guy sticks middle finger at her. She is immediately intrigued and goes forth to stalk said guy.Guy proceeds to be incredibly rude and verbally abusive to girl. Girl falls madly in love, and decides to do her school family report on HIS FAMILY(like wut?). Guy tells her to leave him alone. She does not listen. There is zero dramatization here, that is how awfully plotted this story is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!!!!! This is the first book I bought from Chapters and I still love it years later. I can't wait for the movie to come out, hopefully in February 2017. It may seem slow or confusing in the beginning but if you continue reading, it gets better along with the series.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could've been better Some parts of the book was confusing and difficult to follow. Definitely not a page turner and did not motivate me to sit down for a long time to finish it. Characters were okay and story-wise it was not that great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love love love I looove this series - the first book especially. I've read the whole series twice and I would probably read it another few times. The characters are all unique and have different things to like/dislike which makes it feel realistic. Plots are intriguing. Everything is described so well so you can really imagine the types of places and the things happening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasant Surprise Honestly, I bought this book strictly based on the cover. I had never heard of or read anything by this author before seeing this book and just thought the cover was cool looking. But once I started reading this one I couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. I am a little surprised at the lower rating on this book as I found it to be a wonderful read. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Have I read this story before? I enjoyed this book. The story kept my interest and I wanted to keep reading to find out what the deal was. While there is nothing overly wrong or done poorly in this book, it just isn’t a favourite of mine. It’s just one of those books that I liked, but can’t get excited about. One thing that kept nagging me throughout reading this book is that I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve read this story before. Don’t get me wrong, I’m positive I haven’t read this particular novel before. But I’m sure I’ve read a very similar take on this angel-human epic romance story before. While I was curious where the story was going, I always knew the direction it was headed. I’m sure this story has been told before, or a very similar one. I just can’t think of which book it was! I’ll have to keep thinking on that. That would probably be my only complaint. While the story definitely had its slower parts, it was good as a whole. The characters were written well and were easy to connect with. I do plan on reading the sequel. I want to find out more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Captivating The concept of this series is amazing and well written. It did take me a few chapters to get involved with the story line, but in the end this is one on my favorite teen fiction-love stories I've read. Lauren Kate stole a piece of my heart with this series

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cancel your plans! This was a really great book! Got it at Walmart, not realizing it was part of a series and ended up reading the entire weekend! Just finished the last novel and it was worth it! It's a beautiful love story with tons of suspense and fantasy stuff that actually makes sense! Enjoy... and cancel your plans. You won't leave til you're done the last novel :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fallen quick review I felt the books plot took to long to be revealed. Everything really became clear near the end of the book, which I didn't like. A great book will not allow me to stop reading, this one I had to put down sometimes because I was somewhat bored, and not totally loving the book. I thoroughly started enjoying it though when the plot started to become clear. I will continue to read the rest of the series.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Wow! Not what I expected. It was awful! Slow starting, at time didn't make sense and the ending was rushed! Reading the second book in the series, only because I had it already bought. Not going to bother with the rest.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Still on the fence I just finished reading this book, and I'm not sure if I loved it or hated it. While I was reading it, I felt terribly lost and confused the whole time. Then at the end you get some answers to your questions. But some are left unanswered, obviously to be uncovered in the next book. But what if I didnt want to read the next one? The development in the novel is minimal. There is a lot of short descriptions of what happens, almost like a play by play without the much needed descriptions for recreating the book in your mind while you read. As I say, I'm still on the fence on this series. I'll give it one more shot with the next book to see if the story line picks up...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Start o the Series This book is a really good book, so I'm not going to judge it based on how poorly the rest of the series was. "Fallen", by itself, is a great book for any teen who is going through a difficult time in their lives. It shows how even in the darkest of places, there is always some reason to keep fighting. But its not just that, yes it has a fairly slow start, but once you can read past it, the book comes to life. Now, onto the rest of the series. "Torment" and "Passion" are not some of my favourite books ever but I wouldn't called them bad books. This series is worth reading though because the finale book, "Rapture", stole my heart. I cry and dreamed with it. The first book is a nice easy read and if you can get past the some of the crappy slow parts in the middle, you should read it. If your looking for an amazing series that will always leave you wanting more, try the "Starcrossed" saga by Josephine Angelini or perhaps the "Divergent" trilogy. If you like angles, maybe the "Halo" trilogy is for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow beginning but great book Fallen starts a bit slow, and to be honest I also put it down and moved onto another book. But I was curious, so I continued to read it. And I am very glad I did so. It may start very slowly, but it begins to capture your imagination without you even knowing it. Soon, you are trapped in a world of mystery and excitement, and it is impossible to put the book down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow Start, Strong Finish Although the start of this book is a little bit slow keep with it, it eventually pulls you in and has you begging for more. Luce has something in her past that is eating away at her, something bad enough it has landed her in a reform school, but fate has to do whatever it takes to bring her to Daniel. This book is a great start to the series and keeps you guessing throughout the story wondering where it’s going to lead you and what Daniel is hiding. The connection between Daniel and Luce is wonderful a small part of you wants to cheer for Cam. The cliff hanger at the end had me moving on to book 2. This is a light read and perfect for a summer series for anyone looking for one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I couldn't put it down! I know a lot of people say that the beginning is a little confusing, but i thought that the author did an excellent job describing a world that her mind brilliantly created. When I finished it, I had to automatically run to the store to buy the next one! And 3 books later, I can't wait for the 4th one to come out! Beware: you are about to enter a world of angels and unimaginable beauty, love and magic.
Date published: 2011-08-09
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mysterious! The book starts off a little boring, confusing you might even say, as you don't understand the 'Trevor' incident yet, or what 'shadows' are. But the book excels as romance and mystery take over. Love triangles, secret love, and hidden identities are discovered while reading, although parts will get a little bit dry throughout chapters, Lauren Kate always knows how to hook the reader at the end to keep them going. I do recommend this book! Althoug for people who can't handle dry sections, try a more interesting series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inevitable Romance As other reviewers have said, the beginning of the book is a bit slow, and the frustration from this quickly changes. As soon as you hit about the middle of the book, you won't be able to put it down (as with most books), but you really will love the story. It's jam-packed with chivalry, declarations of love, and spine-tingling suspense. I loved this book, and I can't wait to read the sequels. I recommend this to anyone looking for a book that's a little bit different than the cooke-cutter romances I've been reading these days.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slow start I found the beginning of the book boring. i wasn't excited about reading it and i had a hard time getting through chapters. Near the middle of the book and on the story really picked up and captivated my attention. I loved the ending. i thought the story was cute, but i think there could definitely be more romance and action going on between Danial and Luce. all in all an okayy read.
Date published: 2011-07-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good From the Start! The beginning seemed a bit slow, and leaves you wondering what is going to happen. As you read further into the book though, everything starts falling into place and I wasn't able to put the book down. Highly romantic, a bit of a nail-biter, and a good teen read. I definitely recommend this book!
Date published: 2011-07-05
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I didn't really like it The story was pretty cliche in my opinion. And Luce seemed not only a little weird but a little too perfect. My friend read it and she also noticed a few errors in the plot line which I also noticed. I don't know if anyone else noticed them so I could maybe be ruining it for them... But When she kisses Daniel she says its her first kiss, and the one with TREVOR doesn't count... what about the one with Cam? That kinda turned me off... There were more 'errors' but I don't really want to explain them. Almost everything was predictable which didn't make it any more interesting. So yeah... I wouldn't recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I was told that this book was amazing. Sadly-I was disappointed. While I did love the idea of fallen angels.....Im not one for a romance overwhelming a book. I did not like that. Too much love not enough gore. I did like it though. it was fun to read-I'll say that. Still....not one of the better books I've read.
Date published: 2011-06-23
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good book. Lame cover. I picked this book up recently and finished it in less than a day. I quickly went out and got the sequel "Torment" and read it just as quickly. The setting was really neat. Luce (17-years-old) gets sent to an old reform school equipped with video surveillance and a creepy commentary. Don't let the lame cover prevent you from reading this book. I don't know whats up with the cover...it couldn't get any worse. Downsides: 1) Lame Cover 2) If you hate when authors leave cliff-hangers that require you to purchase the sequels to find out what happens then this probably isn't the book for you. Lauren Kate is definitely a fan of leaving readers hanging. This book deals with "Fallen Angels" (which is a nice change from all the vampire books). It reminded me of "Hush, Hush" & "Crescendo" by Becca Fitzpatrick .

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great. I was really dissapointed with this book. I really wanted to love it. The idea was good, and the cover was beautiful, but the characters felt flat to me. I knew exactly what would happen in the book after reading the prologue (which I seriously wish had been left out) and nothing at all interesting happened in the book for the first hundred something pages. Both the action and the romance in the novel picked up way too slowly, but when it did it was just alright.
