An entertaining Harry Potter companion book written by J.K. Rowling

As featured in the first year set texts reading list in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an extensive introduction to the magical beasts that exist in the magical, non – Muggle world. Some of the animals featured in the A?Z you will have already met in the existing Harry Potter books: for example Hippogriff, Flobberworm, Kappa – others you certainly won't: read on to find out exactly what a Chizpurfle is, or why one should always beware of the sinister Lethifold ... As Albus Dumbledore says in his introduction, this set text book by Newt Scamander has given the perfect grounding to many a Hogwarts student. It will be helpful to all Muggles out there too ... On reading the book you will also find that Harry, Ron and (in one instance) Hermione – couldn't resist graffitiing the book, and adding their own hand – written opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great addition to any Harry Potter fan's library I truly loved this little book. As you should already know, this isn't a story, but a sort of fictional history book of magical creatures from the HP universe, and it's adorable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nostalgic Essence of the Harry Potter Series It entails comedic annotations and scribbles between the main character, Harry, and his trusty friend, Ron's, interaction throughout. All of which are relevant to the series. Hands down, a great collection to add if you are Harry Potter fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful book I've had an older copy of this book for myself for awhile, but I've recently bought this copy for a friend. It is a witty, funny book that nicely complements the Harrry Potter series, and gives you an inside look into the HP world. After having recently seen the movie version, I was glad to have read this book! #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Humorous short read Witty and funny, Newt's writing shows much of his character that we have came to love and Harry's annotations are priceless. I can just imagine him and Ron scribbling on it during their Hogwart's years. This cover is much preferred over the new one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for reference! This book certainly isn't a necessity and is really more of a novelty item if anything else. However I still found it highly enjoyable. My recommendation is to have this book nearby while reading the Harry Potter books, it provides context and descriptions that J.K Rowling can't get into within the original text for the sake of being concise. Knowing certain things about the creatures can provide insight that enriches the novels. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comedic Companion This book, who's royalties are all donated to charity, is an excellent (however brief) companion book for the Harry Potter series. The content will be most enjoyed by those who can place the Beasts found in the book, in the stories they have already read. It is unsurprisingly imaginative and even insightful, for both children and adult fans of the original series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Read You really have to know the HP world to follow this book. I bought it with the movie coming out soon, I wanted to know more about the beasts and Newt Scamander. It turned out to be more of an encyclopedia on beasts written by Scamander. Be aware when purchasing this is not a story,

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Great for Potterhead addicts like me, but the material can be a bit dry for those who have not read the HP books that in-depth. Kind of reminds me of an encyclopedia.
