about

J.K. Rowling’s five-film Fantastic Beasts adventure series continues with the original screenplay for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured in New York with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escapes custody and sets about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists Newt, his former Hogwarts student, who agrees to help once again, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

This second original screenplay from J.K. Rowling, illustrated with stunning line art from MinaLima, expands on earlier events that helped shape the wizarding world, with some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of both the books and films.

J.K. Rowling is the author of the record-breaking, multi-award-winning Harry Potter novels. Loved by fans around the world, the series has sold over 500 million copies, been translated into over 80 languages, and made into eight blockbuster films. She has written three companion volumes in aid of charity: Quidditch Through the Ages and...

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why Screenplays? Seems like JK is only writing screenplays these days. Love the story but feel like there is a lot that is missing and not fleshed out because it is in a screenplay format. If you are not already a HP fan, these screenplays will not make you one. You miss out on so much character development and backstory with the screenplays. Stick with the books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved being back in the wizarding world! I thought the screenplay was well done. I will warn that it is a lot of information so read carefully and brush up on your Wizarding knowledge. Definitely recommend reading the book prior to watching the movie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Already excited It's not even released and I'm counting down the days until I can finally have the screenplay in my hands, and of course, watch the movie. If it's anything like the first Fantastic Beasts movie and screenplay, it's going to be a pleaser. But darker, as Joanne and all the cast of the Crimes of Grindelwald says!
