Nobody outfoxes Fantastic Mr. Fox!

Someone's been stealing from the three meanest farmers around, and they know the identity of the thief—it's Fantastic Mr. Fox! Working alone they could never catch him; but now fat Boggis, squat Bunce, and skinny Bean have joined forces, and they have Mr. Fox and his family surrounded. What they don't know is that they're not dealing with just any fox—Mr. Fox would rather die than surrender. Only the most fantastic plan can save him now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE! Love, love, love this book! I first had it read to me when I was in elementary school. A teacher read it to the whole class, and I loved it so much my parents had to go out and buy it for me. Over the years I have read and reread it so many times I am surprised that the book is still in one piece! I tried to get my kids to read it, as I think it's a book everyone will enjoy and should read/have it read to them but they aren't interested.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly Fantastic Mr Fox This book had it's moments of fun and was enjoyable, but overall it fell flat and is not very memorable. I typically like Mr Dahl's works and find them magical and brilliant. But this one fell short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it!! It's amazing how Roald Dahl writes such great books for kids, and this one is just as great as so many others of his! My only complaint was that it was a bit short.. Would've loved to keep reading!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great family read I read this book to my kids, 5 and 7. I admit: I thought they'd get weirded out by the farmers' violent tactics to catch Mr. Fox, but they loved it! And they got a real kick out of the movie once we were finished reading the book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic indeed Dahl writes the best children's books, period.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent I watched and loved the movie many times before reading this book. The book lacks the comedic timing of the film but remains whimsical and funny. Like Dahl's other children's books, this is pleasant with a slight edge, keeping it from being to cotton candy sweet.
Date published: 2016-11-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightful As usual Dahl's novel is full of delightful action and descriptive language that entertains all ages.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay Fantastic Mr. Fox is an okay story that children would probably enjoy. It is definitely not Roald Dahl's best books. The story line was not interesting, and the solution to Mr. Fox's problem was somewhat predictable. Fantastic Mr. Fox is about Mr. Fox, who steals chickens and other food from three farmers' farms. The farmers decide that they must shoot the fox. Find out how Mr. Fox gets himself and his family out of this mess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just wonderful I listened to "Fantastic Mr. Fox," on audio, unabridged. I have to say, there's just something about someone reading you a children's book that I find lovely. Fantastic Mr. Fox is about said fox, who has a family of three fox cubs, and a wife, and lives in the middle of three very nasty farmers. The farmers decide it's time for the fox - and all the digging animals, to go, and it's up to Mr. Fox to figure a way out of the mess he's in, before all the animals starve. The story is a delight, the farmers are nasty in ways kids will giggle over, and the animals are quick and lively. The end result is a lot of fun, and I remember reading this as a child and imagining and drawing maps of the story's ultimate resolution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilariously Funny! Three nasty farmers decide to get rid of the fox and his family once and for all. The fox finds himself in a predicament but after some thinking he comes up with a plan that outsmarts the farmers. This is a hilariously funny book. I've read it several times now and it still makes me chuckle. In the 7yo's own words, he "loved it!" This is an especially fun book to read aloud and Quentin Blake's delicious illustrations on every page are just as much fun as the story itself. Recommended for all ages.

Editorial Reviews

"This reprint of the 1970 edition tells the story of clever Mr. Fox, his adoring wife, and their four small children, who outsmart three of the nastiest, ugliest, and ultimately dumbest farmers ever to raise poultry. Librarians will want to consider purchasing this newly released edition."--Booklist.
