The extraordinary new Lucas Davenport thriller from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner.
The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was . . . something smelled bad—like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another.

By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to fifteen bodies and counting. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, when Lucas began to investigate, he made some disturbing discoveries of his own. The victims had been killed over a great many years, one every summer, regular as clockwork. How could this have happened without anybody noticing?

Because one thing was for sure: the killer had to live close by. He was probably even someone they saw every day. . . .
John Sandford is the author of twenty-four Prey novels; seven Virgil Flowers novels, most recently Storm Front; and six other books. He lives in California and New Mexico.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FIELD OF PREY A VERY spine tingling story, full of non ending suspense that keeps you riveted to your chair. I loved the ending as it didn't just end with getting the culprit. Instead the story came full circle with all of the stories characters. A MUST READ.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Where's Sandford? There is definitely something 'off' with Field of Prey. It's hard to recognize Sandford's hand in this poorly written in this book. For that matter, it's hard to recognize Lucas Davenport! Alas, all good things must come to an end. Farewell Lucas! It was a fun ride!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sandford at his best! I've been waiting for this book. Sandford is such a pleasure to read. Never fully sure of what will happen next , yet you find yourself telling Lucas he is missing the obvious clues! Great read as usual! One problem is it all ends to soon and now the long wait for the next in the series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner. Lucas Davenport returns in Field of Prey and doesn’t disappoint. There are curves to be navigated throughout the adventure. These curves keep the pages turning at a rapid pace until the resolution allows you to release your pent up breath.
