Fiction writer Julie Garwood was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the sixth of seven boisterous children and learned early on to make herself heard in her large Irish family. Garwood's writing career began when the last of her three children entered school. Her first publications were young adult books and afterwards, she turned to historical fiction. Her first novel was "Gentle Warrior" (1985) and followed with over ten New York Times bestsellers. She has written 20 bestsellers and her name is on practically every well known best sellers list in the country. She has more than 30 million books in print and seventeen of her titles have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List.
