Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fireblood I loved it to the ending. The ending was a bit too much, but I have hope that the series will be redeemed in the third.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An Amazing Sequel *Disclaimer: We received this ARC from Hachette Book Group Canada. This has not biased my opinion. Thank you, HBG!* I recently finished reading FROSTBLOOD, and I knew right after that I would dive into FIREBLOOD. What I liked most about this second installment was the elaboration on the world–in book 1, we are kept in Tempesia, with little knowledge of the kingdom below (Sudesia, home of the Firebloods). Like in FROSTBLOOD, Blake uses stories and legends to convey details about worldbuilding and the gods/goddesses, and though there are MANY details, I found it generally easy to follow. (Since I recently finished book 1, I remembered a lot of the details.) From the start, I knew I would like the Sudesian kingdom more than Tempesia; there was just something about it that was exciting. Maybe since Ruby is a Fireblood, it made me more excited to learn about her home land and heritage. Next, the characters. From the synopsis, you can see a bit of a love triangle forming. Normally I’m not a huge fan of those. In this book, however, I really liked Kai, his constant sarcasm and wit, and the way he became a true companion to Ruby. Of course, I’m excited to see his character grow in the final book! (Still … Arcus + Ruby!) Next–setting: I liked the palace vibe, which was similar to the Frost King’s palace yet so different. It reminded me a bit of RED QUEEN in a way. Likewise, in terms of structure, the “trials” in this book felt a lot like an echo of the “trials” in Book 1, which Ruby had to face in the Frost King’s arena. That portion of the book felt a bit sluggish, but then again, I was reading it a bit slowly; once I really sat down to read, I flew through it! Still, as the book went on, I realized these trials had a purpose, especially as it came down to the final 100 or so pages. Most of the action takes place at the end (like in FROSTBLOOD). I loved the twists–in plot, in character, I was honestly gasping! I think the ending of this book really sets up the final installment, NIGHTBLOOD, and I am excited to see where it goes! Rating: 4.5*

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Sequel on Fire! Having read and enjoyed Frostblood last year I was ready and eager to jump back into its world full of frost and fire. Once again the story has me mesmerized. Fireblood was even more amazing than its predecessor. There's something just so compelling about the Frostblood Saga. I was really drawn into the story with its divided people and masked terrors. I was able to easily return to the world and pick up on the conflict and struggles that persisted from book one. The politics were messy and most decisions came with backlash but Ms. Blake presents each complication with clarity. There was never any doubts on how difficult it would be to attain peace between the two races. Naturally there were more than a few surprises along the way. I loved that true motives weren't unveiled until the last minute. Emotions played an integral part in this sequel. Ruby and Arcus had even more to lose than before if they didn't succeed in their tasks. Both had bigger things to worry about than their own feelings yet their thoughts never strayed far from each other. I didn't enjoy seeing them apart but I understood the reasoning. I can't say I welcomed Kai's appearance but he was helpful (most of the time). Regarding the possible love triangle I will say the time apart and the few heartaches felt were worth it. Bonus that despite there being never-ending conflicts between the characters, when the time came, they were able to work together without prejudice. I've said this before but I really love the way Ms. Blake crafts the tale of the gods and the history of the people. The story within the story was simple to understand and a pleasure to learn. It's original and perfectly lays the foundation to the whole storyline. I definitely wouldn't mind hearing more of these tales! A fantastic story with incredible characters the Frostblood Saga books will draw you into its pages. Fireblood was an excellent sequel and I couldn't be more excited to see what more will unfold in the finale Nightblood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fiery Fun So good! It was so easy to fall back into this world and its characters, drama, and action. The story felt like an adventure from start to finish. Epic certainly fits the bill here as Ruby struggles to balance two worlds and increase her powers to battle dark, corrupting enemies. The challenges she faced were fairly creative and quite harrowing. The story was filled with unique twists, and I was shocked by the last major reveal. The characters continued to be strong, Ruby in particular growing in maturity and strength. As for the romance, there was a LOT of drama involved in that, but both Arcus and Kai are good leads (though I'm biased in saying that Arcus is the better of the two). I really enjoyed the action scenes and craved more of them. I'm super excited to see how this series will conclude. I've really enjoyed it and genuinely look forward to each book. I can't wait for June 2018!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Loved It! If you haven't started this series you must pick it up immediately! I could not put it down as it left me either in shock or heartbroken. Elly Blake's writing was beautifully written and the background story was very insightful. Once I finished Frostblood, I knew that I couldn't wait to read Fireblood which is now one of my favourite books of this year! If you follow me on Goodreads, I mentioned that Chapter 5 left me heartbroken. It was a fast-paced, action packed and in the end surpassed my expectations and Fireblood starts a few days after Frostblood ended and Ruby is trying to adjust to the Frost blood world. I would say I'm definitely invested in the characters and the entire novel. While you might see a love triangle in this novel my heart will still be with Arcus. But I still had a hard time choosing between him and Kai. But overall, I'm happy with Ruby's choice at the end! Looking forward to where Elly is going to go with this in Nightblood! As you go along we get to see more about Ruby's past and learn more about the Minax's history and learning to control her fire from the Fireblood masters. Elly Blake has written a series that you get you hooked because I know I am! If you are looking for a great fantasy read you will want to grab this book series. The writing is spot on and the ending will make you wish Nightblood was already out! Plus look at the beautiful covers. Can't wait to see what is going to happen next in the series!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Did the first book justice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A GREAT sequel! **I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.** If you read Frostblood and enjoyed it then you'll love this one just as much. It had the same feel as the first while progressing our story forward and giving our favourite characters a chance to grow. LIKES - I loved that we got to meet a ton of new characters in this book! Not that I didn't like the others but I especially loved these new ones. - Most of this book takes place down south with the firebloods which was awesome. I was glad we got to learn so much about them since the last book was all about the frostbloods. - I really enjoyed reading about the three trials that Ruby had to take. It let her grow her powers which I was really glad to see. - I love that this world has it's own set of mythology. I loved that we got to learn a ton more about it in this book! - Ruby grows up a lot in this book. I especially love how she doesn't do everything Arcus says without question. She makes her own decisions and will do what she wants AND what she thinks will help Arcus. Their romance is one of the cutest things. DISLIKES - There's some big news about Ruby that gets revealed and I can't decide if I love it or if it was too typical of a trope. It wasn't bad but I think we'll have to wait to see how it progresses. - The storyline with the Minax could get a little confusing. I think I like the idea of them but it could have been executed a little better.
