Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Absolutely Great Adventure Story! Sorcery, magic and intrigue intertwine to provide a spellinbinding adventure story that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat. The plot begins with a young woman on the verge of womanhood who is forced into a soldier's life against her will. Shan is trained as one of the Wolves, a band of warriors created by a group of evil wizards- the Arkanan- to protect their powers and their search for immortality from the prying eyes of other nearby countries. Alone, half blind and abused by her fellow trainees Shan must battle her fears and hone her skills as she struggles to make sense of a prophecy that sets her on a path to destroy the wizards and the instrument of their evil, the firedrake. But Shan is not alone in the quest. The prophecy provides two companions; Deakin, a charismatic, but uncontrollable warrior crippled by a secret past and Fletcher, a talented but untrained wizard,. Together the three must free the people of Perrin from the evil manipulations of the wizards, and undo the emotional and psychological magic that makes the Wolf bands formidable foes. This is a story of courage, of friendship, and of love denied as the three companions forge their unique talents into a force that will undo the evil of the Arkanan. Each one must disover their own inner strength, and overcome their past as they draw closer to the evil that seeks to destroy them. From the beginning to the end Ann Ewan weaves an adventure story that keeps the reader spellbound.
