Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite one! It's interesting reading the other reviews about how this was their least favourite of the trilogy - it was actually my favourite! I guess it depends, but all in all, I don't think it can be disputed that this isn't a good book - the whole trilogy is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book Not my favourite of the series but well written nonetheless. Could do without the ending.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but weakest in series To be honest, this is the only book so far in this series I have not really enjoyed. Maybe it is a little too dark, or maybe it was just the story, but either way, of the four books in this series, this is the only one I am not likely to read again. Shade, our hero from the first two books, has now grown and become a father himself. After an earthquake, his son Griffin is drawn into an underground world through a fissure that has opened up. Shade realizes that the legends say, if a living being enters the underworld realm of the dead and does not escape quickly, its life will be lost. Shade is frantically searching for his son and soon realizes an old enemy is also in the underworld. Oppel again uses mythology and legends and weaves a story of bats around them. It does fit with the other books in the series, I just happened to not enjoy it as much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favourite Book of the Trilogy Shade's son, Griffin, is sucked under the earth during an earth tremor and falls into the Underworld, the land of the dead. Shade enters through the same fissure to rescue him. More is at stake than just the life of Griffin though; Griffin and Shade uncover a diabolical plot to take over the land of the living. This third book in the trilogy is by far my favourite. Just absolutely riveting. Many familiar characters make appearances and the new characters are endearing. The plot is dark and the Underworld is fascinating. The ending is heart wrenching and brought tears to my eyes. An exceptional book and a fitting end to the trilogy. I highly recommend this trilogy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extreme! I must say, silverwing, sunwing and firewing are some of my favorite books. Firewing's an amazing story full of excitement and adventure, though, it was a sad an unexpected ending. i hope ken continues writing magnificent and thrilling books! GO FIREWING!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent this is a very detailed and sad book. it expresses how the characters are felt like you are in the characters body... kenneth oppel is a magnificent writer who carries readers through this world of bats with power and wisdom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TERRIFIC This is truly one of the books that takes you into the characters mind. As you Intwined youself in this beautiful book, you will understand the motives of the character's better. A excellent book that i would reccommend to anyone who will listen, sadly a book that left me crying in the end. Which i thought was the best part of the book, pulling you in little by little un till you think your part of the characters, it will leave you with your mind running! A fantastic finish to the silverwing sequels!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TBBE This book is most definatly TBBE (The Best Book Ever) It is a wonderful storie about freindship, love and life. When you choose a book you always look at the back and read the mini summary to see if you want to read it of not. Well, in this case the back does NOT do it justace, it ten times better than it sounds, so keep that in mind. Happy reading!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Book Except... Now I'm not one to ruin the end of a book so I wont but i found the end to be quite lacking with no explanation to why it ended that way. my only hope is that shade/griffins new adventure goes better than the last
Date published: 2004-01-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most unexpected ending ever!! I think this book is quite good, but Ken Oppel should make another book to make up for the sad ending. Other than that, the book is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firewing its simple the book is the most amazing thing i have read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Book, Bad Ending This was a really great book. The only thing I didn't think was the greatest is that Shade kind of dies. Other reviews say the ending was half happy, half sad but in my opinion it wasn't happy at all. Silverwing and Sunwing were two of the greatest books I've ever read in my life partly because they didn't take place in mostly one place as did Firewing in the underworld. I would be so happy if there was another book where Shade gets his life back and Marina and Chinook pop up some more. I was disappointed by the ending, but the rest of the book was above average. There has to be another book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firewing I loved it! Way better than the first! Almost as good as the second! I HATE WHAT HAPPENS TO SHADE!!!!! I EVEN CRIED CAUSE I WAS SOO SAD! why did he have to kill him! why doesn't goth die? DOES GOTH EVER DIE? when we thought he died, he regenerates...it's like die already! arg! what happens to griffin? and marina? does griff and luna get together? when's the 4th book coming out? what happens to shade now that he's dead? is he truly happy? why does the book end so shortly? what about the others, nemo, java, murk and yorick? do we ever meet them again? are THEY happy? ARG! SO many questions, so little answers....but overall, AWESOME BOOK! i recommend it to EVERYBODY! sorry to give away the ending.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from VERY GOOD I enjoyed Firewing very much although i'm not really happy about what happened to Shade, what did he become? I'll hv to imagine what happened to Shade and his family until the next book(if there is a next one) I dont like it when the main character dies in the last book of a series. Since you cant think what will happen next, it keeps you dreaming about the characters. I gave this book 4 because it was good like any other books Oppel has written. But there were too few action with the minor characters like marina(she was the main character in the first 2 series!) In this series there were very few characters and most of the story takes place in the underworld unlike Sunwing(hibernaculum, human building and jungle)I favor Sunwing the best but this is still a very good book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT I hv read all the books in the series and i thought they were all very nicely written. Although there was somethings that were not right. There were to few new charaters and not enough old charaters in the story. Firewing mostly surrounds Griffin, Luna, Shade and the rest of the pilgrims. Unlike in Silverwing and Sunwing there were minor but important charaters such as the rat king etc. There wasnt enough things about Cassiel in Firewing. He appeared in the series at the end of Sunwing so we barely knew the hero's father. One more thing, the ending was sad yet happy. I really felt sorry for Shade who just became a father and had to sacrifice himself for his son. Now i finished the whole book i half wanted an alternate ending but the ending we have now was very good it is just sad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Book Ever!!!! I've read Firewing and I think it's a great story. It's a great adventure story. I think everybody should read this great book!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good book i just finished reading Firewing after a VERY long session of sitting on my couch and reading half the book. it was very suspensful; i couldn't stop myself from reading all the way to the end because i wanted to know what was going to happen. i gave this book only 4 stars because i wasn't very happy with the ending. yes, it was, in a way, a happy ending, but i just think it ended too abruptly. in my opinion, there should have been an epilogue briefly stating what happened to Griffin, Luna, Shade, Marina, and the other characters after the actual story ended. besides the few unconvincing parts, it was a very good book and it was definitely not a waste of time reading it, although it wasn't as good as the book's prequels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!! Truly Creative Kenneth Oppel has outdone himself this time. It is so sad to see Shade die. Yet so happy to see Luna live. This is a must-buy for all customers thinking twice about Firewing. It is truly AMAZING.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from i love the silverwing series I come from the US, and their was a school book award called the Maude Hart Lovelace. Silverwing was one of the competitors and i read it and loved it. I of course voted for it and read Sunwing. I visited Kenneth Oppel's website and it said Firewing was coming out, but not until Feb. in the US. I was sad and knew I couldn't wait for it to come out. Then i e-mailed K. Oppel and he suggested this website to get it off of. I still haven't read it, I haven't even bought it but if it's as good as the first two, I'm going to love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!!***** I read the first 2 series and I thought it was great. I couldn't believe one bat could have such an amazing adventure. I think Kenneth Oppel should continue the Silverwing series because they rock. I can't wait to read Sunwing myself! And if you have not read the series, you better start looking for this book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firewing I enjoyed reading this book, it was the bomb!!! The sensation of it kept me up all hours, I couldn't put it down. Shade was such a good father to give his life to Griffin and Luna. All I have to say is, I suggest this book to anyone!! Hope you enjoy the book as I have!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ...speechless i read the book at indigo, before being dragged out of there by my friends. everyday, i read a little, finally finishing on the third day. i even dreamed about it! HOW AMAZING! unexpecting events, stunning ending, so sad yet so perfect! how can ANYONE even wait for the next book to come out? i can't even think of a fanfic to right, it fits in so well! As stunning as its two prequels, Firewing has captured my heart entirely! A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!
Date published: 2002-09-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent book!!!! I thought this book was amazing. I like the way Kenneth Oppel interprets the world of the dead. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm interested to see what happens and I'm also interested to see the title of the next book.....Silverwing, Sunwing, and Firewing. What's next?? If you haven't read this book you don't know what you're missing!
Date published: 2002-08-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-read!!! This book is a fantastic read!! It's best when one has previously read the prequels, Silverwing and Sunwing before trying out this one. Everyone, child and adult alike, should read this book because with science fiction and life morals, Kenneth Oppal creates a story that captures all.
Date published: 2002-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from read this book! I bought this book two days ago, that night, i stayed up 'till 11:00 reading it, i finished it last night, crying about the fact that it was over. The only other times which I have done this, is when I finished,J.R.R. Tolkien's, The Lord of the Rings, William Nicholson's, The Wind Singer and Phillip Pullman's, The Amber Spyglass. Oppel brought back characters from the last books which I thought was brilliant, they answered the question, Hey, whatever happened to him/her?. A story of love, trust and the battle between the dead and the living, Firewing is a definite must for children and parents alike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fire wing Firewing was even better then Sunwing because there was more action. But it might of had more characters. But i would like to read it again and i would tell a friend about Firewing and i hope there will be an other book then Firewing and i would call it Icewing. for the next series. thank you again for a other good book kenneth oppel from robert tallett

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firewing is Amazing!! I've read both Silverwing and Sunwing, and I find that Firewing is an amazing third edition to this series. Kenneth Oppel definitely needs to publish more books in this series, because once you read one, you can't put it down. The ending definitely surprised me and had me crying, but luckily, it suits the rest of the story and it does leave some room for another book. I recommend it to anyone!!
Date published: 2002-05-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Firewing, a must read!! Firewing is a simply enchanting book about Shade and his son, Griffen. It draws readers' attention to the book. The book itself is captivating. Shows the loyalty between father and son.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I just finished Firewing now and it's one of the greatest books I've ever read. I was so suprised at the ending. I really hope Kenneth Oppel writes another book in this series or whatever it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Firewing I'm not even finished this book and already I am posting a warning: THIS BOOK IS EXTREMELY GRIPPING!!! I read the end (I do this for basically every book) and it is shocking. If Shade is your favourite character, be forewarned that something not-so-pleasant happens to him. Well, I won't tell you any more than that, but be warned: Only choose this book if you have lots of time on your hands, and if you don't mind crying a bit at the ending.
