about

When Claudia accidentally eavesdrops on the epic breakup of Paige and Iris, the it-couple at her school, she finds herself in hot water with prickly, difficult Iris. Thrown together against their will in the class production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, along with the goofiest, cutest boy Claudia has ever known, Iris and Claudia are in for an eye-opening senior year.

Smart, funny, and thoroughly, wonderfully flawed, Claudia navigates a world of intense friendships and tentative romance in Emma Mills's Follish Hearts, a young adult novel about expanding your horizons, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, and accepting-and loving-people for who they really are.

Emma Mills is the author of First & Then and This Adventure Ends. She lives in Indianapolis, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in cell biology.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good in the end This one started a little slow for me, but I really got into it closer to the end, and I ended up liking it quite a bit. Sweet story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book was so cute. If you ever need a cute, quick book to read I highly recommend this book. This book was just so fun and relate-able even if your far removed from high school. This author gets teenagers and how they talk, act, etc. It was just an enjoyable book and I will be reading more from this author.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4.75 "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin something so cliché for you" stars My heart is just so full right now guys. I can't even. My congested head did not appreciate the five bouts of crying but there was an even greater amount of literal laughing out loud that happened so I'll pop an extra sinus med for my troubles and call it a day. It was totally worth it anyway. But seriously, wow, Mills.. I can't explain what this author does to me. Or does for me. She just gets it right every time. I don't think anyone does YA like she does; it's real it's messy it's beautiful it's quirky it's quippy it's bantery it's just perfect. FOOLISH HEARTS is full of friendships, Shakespeare, life changes, fandom, best friends, doubt, new friends, playing it safe, MMORPGS, and love. As an added bonus it's diverse, touching without crossing over into cheese territory, and it's just so damn pure. Pure and precious and gah the feels, I'm so in love with this, for real. I can't wait to reread (though I need a FIRST & THEN reread before that happens) and I can't wait to add this to my shelf. Because have you seen that cover? The outside beauty matches the insides. Perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adorably nerdy and heartwarming Emma Mills' books are the perfect anecdote to winter. They're warm-hearted, perfectly paced, and full of interesting and well-developed secondary characters. I finished Foolish Hearts and immediately grabbed Emma's other two books off my shelf for a re-read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Story for Every Heart What can I say about Emma Mills? She really has a knack for writing teens stories that'll make you nod and swoon. I loved her previous books so I wasn't surprised to find myself absolutely loving Foolish Hearts too. Claudia wants to be invisible. She just wants to finish high school without being seen. Only, when she accidentally makes it onto mean girl Iris's sh*t list the rest of her school years looks to be anything but calm. What follows is a heartwarming tale of new friends and sweet love. It was really easy to relate to Claudia as she came face to face with her fears. While she initially did not deal well with the changes with her friends she does realize her mistakes and patches things up quickly. My favourite part, besides the romance, was seeing Claudia and Iris work out their differences. They went from deliberately ducking out of each other's way to fangirling together to giving sincere advices to each other. Time and trust built their friendship and in the end it just felt right. I swooned hard over Claudia and Gideon. Their budding romance was so precious. I loved how careful they were with each other. They encountered some roadblocks but I'm super thrilled Claudia gathered enough confidence and believed in Gideon enough to open her heart again. Every conversation and interaction between the two of them had my pounding heart filled with warm fuzzy feels. They were adorable to read about. As a contemporary lover I highly recommend Emma Mills books if you haven't read any yet. You won't regret it. Whether it's this newest Foolish Hearts or her debut First & Then or her sophomore This Adventure Ends they're all simply amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved! This was such an enjoyable novel to read! Prior to reading this novel, I had not read anything or heard of anything written by Emma Mills before. Due to that, I was unreasonably apprehensive going into this novel and I didn't have high expectations but I'm happy to say that I was wrong and that.....I LOVED it. I could go on endlessly about the author's style of writing. It was the perfect fit to me as a reader. The writing and story flowed so well, the characters were likeable, and everything was extremely relatable. Not only was this an extremely accurate 'coming of age' story for teenagers but at the same time, I can relate to some of the events/emotions that the characters are feeling at 26 years of age. It definitely is a suitable novel for a variety of ages and I think that many will get enjoyment from it. Additionally, in attribution to the author's style, the humour within this novel was legitimately laugh-out-loud funny. Believe me, I am not just saying that in a way that it has you quietly surmising over a passage in your head...it actually had me laughing out loud and wanting to tell people the jokes that I had read. They were unique, creative, and a direct representation of the author's personality. Overall, I just can't get over this novel or the level of the author's writing. The writing style in combination with an incredible story made for the perfect 'recipe'. I could go as far as comparing the style of writing of this author resembling a female John Green and I mean that in the highest esteem. Definitely recommend this novel and I know for certain that I will be on the look out for more that has been written by Emma Mills. **Thank you to Raincoast Books for supplying me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**
