Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow but Enjoyable The plot moves slowly, especially when she delves into philosophical areas which are repeated over and over again. However, Cherryh shows her great skill in character development once more. Her main character, Tristen, will connect with most readers and you care about what happens to him. Her description of time and place is also excellent, an echo of our medieval ages. As I read this novel, I couldn't help but think back to Katherine Kerr's DeVerry series which I enjoyed a bit better....very similar in some ways. Overall, I recommend it, but for a more mature reader.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AC If you're looking for more sophisticated fantasy fare than the typical hack and slash, then Fortress in the Eye of Time may be for you. Cherryh's writing style easily draws you into her fantasy world and always leaves you wondering what will happen next. My only complaint lies in the slow pacing where there's a great deal of character development, but nothing really happens. Overall, it's a very good introduction to this universe.
