Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fortunately the Milk is the tallest of tall tales! This book has a little bit of everything, from aliens and pirates to dinosaurs and time travel. Just when you think it cannot possibly get any crazier, it manages to blow your mind with another plot twist! Will the milk survive this hilarious adventure? I think this book is perfect for anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Imaginative This is a fun book for kids with fantastic illustrations with an interesting story full of imagination. I read this one to my daughter and she loved it. She liked how the father had all sorts of crazy adventures on his way to get milk for his children. There are pirates and dinosaurs and hot air balloons, among other things, all tied together with the phrase, "fortunately, the milk." This would also be a good book for early or reluctant readers because it moves along quickly and has so many wonderful illustrations. It is almost a cross between a novel and a graphic novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny! Gaiman's sense of humour shines through in this novel where a dad gets waylaid buying milk for his children's breakfast and imagines fantastic stories for why he's late. I can just imagine Gaiman getting all his best dad jokes out for this book. Highly enjoyable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A funny, creative read! We read this on our summer vacation over breakfast. The kids loved the drawings and all the strange characters in the book - their favourites being the 'wumpires'. I had listened to the Audiobook before buying the book to read to the kids. The audiobook is well narrated by Neil Gaiman.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I really did not like this book. It seems just thrown together and rambling. I was disappointed because I think this author is better than this particular work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fortunately, The Milk Fanatastic little book. Started reading it to my 7 year old over Christmas vacation one night before bed and almost made it all the way through in one sitting. Fast paced, excellent imagery and great illustrations. Hard to take a breath and always peaking around the next corner to see where you will be taken next.

Editorial Reviews

“It’s hard not to love a novel that borrows equally from Calvin and Hobbes and The Usual Suspects. If you read only one book this year, a story with dancing dwarfs is always a wise choice.”
