about

Murder. It’s a perennial problem.

Verity Hawkes is a shut-in. After two years bunkered in her apartment, the only thing that gets her out is the disappearance of her beloved but eccentric aunt. As she takes over her aunt’s landscaping shop, she’ll need to go from hoarder to horticulturist in a hurry…

Her new home of Leafy Hollow is quaint, except for her most obnoxious client. When a series of freak accidents kills the customer, all signs point to Verity as the killer.

The hunt for answers is on, and Verity must question a tipsy carpenter, a bacon-peddling vegan baker, and her dreamy landscaping competitor to keep her new life afloat. Failure to find the truth could put her back in a confined space for much more than two years…

From Garden to Grave is the first book in a new series of delightfully funny cozy mysteries. If you like lovably quirky characters, deceptively idyllic Canadian villages, and twists you won’t see coming, then you’ll love Rickie Blair’s Leafy Hollow Mysteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A can't put down humorous cozy read Title: From Garden to Grave - Leafy Hollow Mystery Book 1 Author: Rickie Blair Publisher: Barkley Books Published: 1-13-2017 Pages: 318 Genre: Mystery & Thriller Sub-Genre: Amateur Sleuths, Suspense, Crafts & Hobbies; Animals, Cozy Mystery, Clean ISBN: 9780995098145 ASIN: B01N7JYUMN Reviewed For: Rickie Blair Reviewer: DelAnne Rating: 4.75 Stars After practically living the life of a agoraphobic recluse for the last two years following her husband's death, Verity Hawkes is pulled from her apathy when she receives word that her Aunt Adeline is missing. She decides to keep her Aunt's business going until she is either found or returned on her own, but not really by her own choice. Her Aunt's client, Yvonne Skalding an officious woman with a tongue as scalding as her name walks into her Aunt's home as soon as Verity arrives, demanding that she cut her lawn since Adeline is not around to do the job herself. Then after offending every sense of sensibility there is walks out telling Verity be there within the hour. The story has you from the very first with its characters and the action that pus you along for the ride. The humor is a bit sublime, has you chuckling as you envision your self in the scene. Empathy for poor Verity as she races to catch up with what is happy. You don't have time to get bored. Although I have little sympathy for the victim in the case. The "old cow" is lucky someone did not off her long ago. With nearly everyone disliking Yvonne the suspect list is long but the police are zeroing on Verity and someone is helping them. Can Verity find the real killer before she becomes his next target? Could her Aunt have been a victim? Where is she? Is she dead like everyone believes? My rating of "From Garden to Grave - Leafy Hollow Mystery Book 1" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from S, ON location and great characters The Southern Ontario town of Leafy Hollow has a collection of interesting residents as Vancouverite Verity Hawkes soon discovers when she arrives to settle her Aunt Adeline's affairs. Rose Cottage is a shamle and Verity has no idea how to anything with Coming Up Roses Landscaping. When bodies begin piling up it doesn't take long for Verity to become the focus of small town OPP Officer Jeff Katsuro. Lots of plot twists and great characters that will hopefully be around for the next book in the series. I didn't guess the killer or the motive!
