Alan Moore (Watchmen) and Eddie Campbell (Bacchus), grandmasters of the comics medium, present a book often ranked among the greatest graphic novels of all time: From Hell.

From the squalid alleys of the East End to the Houses of Parliament, from church naves to dens of the occult, all of London feels the uniquely irresistable blend of fascination, revulsion, and panic that the Ripper offers. The city teeters on the brink of the twentieth century, and only the slightest prodding is necessary to plunge it into a modern age of terror.

Moore and Campbell have created a gripping, hallucinatory piece of crime fiction about Jack the Ripper. Detailing the events that led up to the Whitechapel murders and the cover-up that followed, From Hell is a modern masterpiece of crime noir and historical fiction.
Alan Moore is widely regarded as the best and most influential writer in the history of comics. His seminal works include Miracleman and Watchmen, for which he won the coveted Hugo Award. Never one to limit himself in form or content, Moore has also published novels, Voice of the Fire and Jerusalem, and an epic poem, The Mirror of Love...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well deserved praise I bought the slipcase edition with the companion book, worth the price. Adds to your knowledge and enjoyment of the graphic novel itself. Both tend to get slow around the middle, but it ramps up significantly from there

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good Maybe it was all the hype surrounding this that gave me high expectations but I only found it okay. I still enjoyed it but there were definitely parts that dragged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting Read An interesting take on Jack the Ripper and the circumstances surrounding the murders. The art isn't to my personal tastes but that's not to say it doesn't suit the story. A worthwhile read for any murder mystery fan, historical buff, or fan of conspiracy theories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hellishly good - a Ripping yarn Do you like Jack the Ripper? I don't care what you said - you'll love this book. Alan Moore delivers as only he can - with a story that has more depth and twists than any other author can give in ten books. The art is perfect for the tone. A classic Graphic novel I would put in the top 50.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice work Alan Alan Moore writes a great graphic novel...and this is a great graphic novel. The images are dark and moody and the dialogue always interesting. Well worth a look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of Moore's best works From Hell has never gotten as much credit as Alan Moore's other graphic novels, in spite of being adapted into a movie starring Johnny Depp. The movie of From Hell was pretty good, but it barely scratched the surface of Moore and Campbell's work. The violent subject matter (Jack The Ripper) may scare off some, but this is much more than a crime story. Moore has taken a single historical event and extrapolated from it to comment on the very nature of reality. This is challenging and at times disturbing, but there is definitely a lot to appreciate.
