Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute read! I read this book with my primary class and they enjoyed it. They understood the lesson easily about how differences make us unique and that it's okay if the same "dance" isn't for everyone - find what works for you. The pictures were beautiful, the message was great and overall, just a fun read for everyone!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for us I bought this book for my son as it had such great reviews, but he is simply refusing to read it. I read it myself until the end to see what it's about and quite liked the story. Not sure why it's a no-no for my son.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Of My Favourites I got this book as a baby shower gift, and I’m so glad I did, it’s a go to story. I love stories that rhyme, they’re fun and easy to read. This story is so sweet, about Gerald the giraffe who can’t dance. All the other dancing animals make fun of him, but then Gerald discovers the power of music.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A definate MUST have We received this book at our baby shower almost 6 years ago and I can tell you the pages are worn from the amount of times we have pulled this one out. We use this for teaching our son baby signs and it worked really well. By the time he was 3 he could recite the story along with us. He would read it to his baby sister who also grew to love it. We will defiantly be purchasing the non board book version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae, Guy Parker-Rees A wonderfully illustrated, fun tale depicting an important message through Gerald, the giraffe. All the jungle animals have their own specialty dance except poor Gerald. Their teasing and bullying has Gerald feeling sad and bad about himself. However, with a little advice and encouragement, he soon learns it's OK to be different and those who are just "Need a different song." Sashaying and boogying, Gerald finds his rhythm and shines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in the Classroom! Gerald the Giraffe longs to dance, but his legs are too skinny and his neck is too long. His knees buckle whenever he tries to twirl. When he wants to join in the fun at the Jungle Dance, the other animals just laugh, "Hey, look at clumsy Gerald," they sneer. Poor Gerald slinks away as the rhinos rock 'n' roll, and warthogs waltz. But an encouraging word from a friend shows Gerald some of us "just need a different song". Soon he is prancing to moon music. His fickle "friends" quickly decide he's worthy of their attention. This book was great to use when teaching about differences and respect in the classroom. You can read story and pause at the different dances to play the music associated with it and have students interpret it (ex: cha-cha, tango, rock ‘n’ roll, waltz). In one large or some smaller groups you could act out the scene in the book where the animals laugh at Gerald. Using mime, tableau, words, etc., have the students act out what the different animals and Gerald were thinking, doing, saying when Gerald was dancing at the beginning/end of the story.
