about

Since its original publication in 1936, Gone With the Wind—winner of the Pulitzer Prize and one of the bestselling novels of all time—has been heralded by readers everywhere as The Great American Novel.

Widely considered The Great American Novel, and often remembered for its epic film version, Gone With the Wind explores the depth of human passions with an intensity as bold as its setting in the red hills of Georgia. A superb piece of storytelling, it vividly depicts the drama of the Civil War and Reconstruction.

This is the tale of Scarlett O’Hara, the spoiled, manipulative daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, who arrives at young womanhood just in time to see the Civil War forever change her way of life. A sweeping story of tangled passion and courage, in the pages of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell brings to life the unforgettable characters that have captured readers for over seventy years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing classic I am a huge fan of classic novels. This one is no exception. I could not put it down. I had bought the book as it looked massive, and as I am a fast reader, I knew it would take me awhile to get through the book. I finished it in a week. It was great!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My favourite I read this at the beginning of the summer to tie me over as I read stupendously fast. As this being a massive book I figured it would take me a substantial amount of time to get through. However despite the size of the book it was so intriguing and every chapter ended with something that drew you back in of the next chapter that made you keep reading. Some parts of the story were a bit dry as with most classic novels it seems, but like I said it just kept drawing me back in. My mind was blown at certain chapters, it has become one of my favourite books ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gone with the Wind It's rare that I say a book is as good as a movie. In this case it is true. Although the story is a little different and Scarlet is a bit different, the tone remains the same. This is a must read for anyone who is a GWTW fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Story Looking at the size of Gone with the Wind, you would assume it was a dull classic that would take ages to read but it is truly worth every second. The plot is constantly progressing and interesting, the story focuses on the American Civil War from the perspective of the Southerns which is very intriguing and the characters are so well-developed that you won't know if you love them or hate them. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
