In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room—to the picture of the three little bears sitting on chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one—the little bunny says goodnight.

In this classic of children's literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.

This board book edition is the perfect size for little hands.

Simple, lyrical text. Margaret Wise Brown is a classic writer. My husband doesn't enjoy it the way I do, but I find it very lulling to read and the simple illustrations attract my little one. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Classic Honestly I can't imagine anyone not having this book on their shelves for the kids. It's a perfect book for bedtime with all the repitition, but has enough words in it for the child to eventually learn and read along. Solid book, even to this day. #plumreview

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not great I don't know why everyone raves so much about this book. The pictures aren't that good and the story is boring. Maybe my child needs to be older to enjoy it. For now I don't like it so I don't reach for it to read to her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bedtime story! I first read this to my daughter when she was born 13 years ago and it became part of our bedtime ritual for years. When my son was born 5 years later, again it became part of the bedtime ritual. I absolutely loved this book! I am now purchasing it again for my sister's new baby and I hope she gets the same experience I did reading it to my babies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Gift Goodnight Moon" fulfills two very powerful needs to small children - to keep their mothers close to their sides as long as possible and to make closure on their day by telling each object goodnight. It is a poetic and soothing book helping babies and parents to calm down and go to bed. This charming story of a young rabbit's bedtime ritual invokes the kind of cozy quiet that invites the peaceful security of pleasant dreams. This book is a "must have" for any parent of a young child. Add to it "Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 1" and you have a perfect birthday package. You might also want to cosider Corduroy , The Giving Tree, and Love You Forever

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My son's FAVOURITE book! I read this book to my son almost every night before bed. He is 7 months old now, but we have been reading this since he was 2 months old and as a result the book has a definite comforting feature to it. While he's not much of a crier, all babies have their fussy days and moments and if I read this book while he is in that zone, he will calm down, curl in and listen! I love having a book we can turn to that is so comforting to him. As well, because it is not too long it is very easy and natural to memorize the words as you read it (which really helps as baby ages and like to "help" turn the pages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enchanting I have read this book so many times that I am now on my tenth copy of it. My son is now 11 years old but I am a childcare provider and this has been a favorite book of all my children. My son always chose this book as his last one before bedtime. He loved the book and the photos. Its simplicity is what captivates the children. It is a must for any parent to have in their collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from been reading since she was a baby I have been reading this book to my daughter since she was a baby. She is now 2 1/2 and she is reading it to me every night. She loves it and the pictures and color is just wonderful. The pages where the light is on, makes the page look like the lamp is really lighting up the page. It's a wonderful book

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good goodnight moon A staple in our family library, this book is more than a cute story; the progressive darkening of the pages, the "wandering" mouse, and the repetitive rhyme are all what makes this a must have for any family with young children!
Date published: 2000-12-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good night moon....and mouse? Count on this old time favorite to enchant your little one. They will be captivated as the little rabbit bids his surroundings good night with lulling words and beautiful illustations. And make sure not to miss the little mouse! My daughter has discovered a game of hide and seek with a little mouse in the green room that delights her evertime we read the story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goodnight Moon An instant hit with both my children. A guaranteed bedtime favorite.
Date published: 1999-12-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goodnight Moon Goodnight Moon is my all time favorite. I first read it to my son when he was 3 months old. He is now almost 22 years old. His sister (now 18) and younger brother (now 12) all went to sleep with this fabulous book. Bedtime was never so easy. I've recommended it to hundreds of people over the years - even to complete strangers that I see at Chapters browsing in the kid's section. It's the first thing I buy when I need a gift for someone's newborn. I'll certainly be reading it to my future grandchildren.

From Our Editors

Hand picked by our Panel of Experts the IndigoKids Recommends program offers book suggestions designed to help you find the perfect book easily and confidently. In the tradition of the most classic bedtime stories, Goodnight Moon captures the magic of sleepytime with its mesmerizing story and dreamy illustrations. Finding all of the items mentioned throughout the book within the pictures is a good bedtime activity - a reappearing little mouse is particularly pesky. By the end of the little rabbit's goodnight poem, the story has quieted to a whisper, and the drawings have darkened with nightfall. As you turn the last page, you can expect a sleepy smile and at least a happy yawn or two.

Editorial Reviews

"A little rabbit bids goodnight to each familiar thing in his moonlit room. Rhythmic, gently lulling words combined with warm and equally lulling pictures make this beloved classic "an ideal bedtime book." (The Christian Science Monitor)
