Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ending eliminates the mystery The addition with the monster blood recipe is neat, but the updated cover is much more comic/lighthearted than the original. The intrigue is gone. As for the story itself, the concept is very creepy but that comes largely from the fear of its unknown origins. It would be much better if they’d never explained the monster blood and let the reader come up with their own theories.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty bad Even accounting for the target audience, this story is pretty bad and it's clear that RL STine phoned it in on this one. Not every Goosebumps story is a winner.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A weaker entry in the series This is one of the weaker entries in the Goosebumps series. The threat isn't really present throughout the story and when it arrives, it isn't all that intimidating.
