I only eat real fresh foods that do not have a barcode or scanner code printed on it. No more packed or boxed fake stuff in my pantry. I eat brown rice, quinoa, ground flax, chia, nuts, legumes, seeds, probiotics, unlimited vegetables, drink plain water and mostly organic fresh foods that need to be refridgerated to nourish my body. I do not get hunger cravings for wheat breads or sugar. My body feels healthier and I do not need any medications. My stomach and limbs are less puffy. I have lost weight. I sleep deeper and feel rested. I have clear skin. Being wheat caffeine and sugar free has changed my body my life.

Dr. Perlmutter explains his conclusions in an easy to understand manner and backs things up with references to a lot of research. I think that full adoption of his recommendation may be beneficial for brain function, but may be difficult to implement from a meal plan point of view especially if you are trying to maintain good fibre content in your diet.

It is more likely people feel better or lose weight because they are watching what their eating and how much overall.

Grain Brain most fully explains a comprehensive list of the problems and gives us good explainations of why our problems develop. It gives us a road map to follow so we can avoid many debilitating health issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wake Up Call! I am so happy that I purchased this book. Since I have been following this food regiment, I lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks and I don’t seem to feel sluggish anymore. My son was diagnosed with ADHD 3 years ago, and I hate that I give him a pill every day. My next step is to have him follow these same food choices to see if this helps “clear his mind” and “keep him focused”, instead of giving him medications that slow down his physical growth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grain Brain Dr. Perlmutter explains all the science behind why grains and sugar are bad for your body and foremost, your brain, explaining all the physiological reactions and health consequences in very plain language.  It all really does make sense that the diseases that are affecting us today as a society were not around hundreds or thousands of years ago, and that, quite simply, if we eat what our bodies were meant to eat, we can reverse these illnesses.  It sounds like hokum since we've been told for years how good whole grains are, but he uncovers the reasons why they're not and shows exactly what they're doing to our brains.  He has made his food program as easy as possible for carb lovers to switch over, and it's not so strict a diet as some other Palio diets.  Some dairy is allowed (not giving up the cream in my coffee, sorry!) and even a glass of wine at dinner, and some fruit.   He also incorporates exercise and regular sleep into the program, explaining here as well the science behind the physiological advantages to our health for both and why they're key parts of the program.  I found his book to be an easy read and the most informative on the subject, and the most convincing.  I'm going to give the program a go and am looking forward to much better health in my 50s and beyond!
