In the first book in the GUARDIANS... series, the reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. He and his new friend, the clever and scrappy Gylfie, find out that St. Aggie's is actually a training camp where the school's leader can groom young owls to help achieve her goal--(cont.)

to rule the entire owl kingdom.

In the first book in this series, the reader follows the adventures of Soren and Gylfie as they subvert the attempted brainwashing that takes place at St. Aggie's, learn to fly, and eventually escape from the evil school.

Later books in the series will focus on Soren's reunion with his evil brother and beloved sister and his and Gylfie's quest for the tools to free the owl kingdom from the threat of St. Aggie's.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favourite book series as a kid Read this series when I was in grade 6 and instantly fell in love with the characters like Soren and Gylfie. As an adult now rereading the series, I find that the repetition in the books as to what happened in the book(s) previous a little tedious, but I understand that for a younger auidence that might take more time reading a book, that these summaries would prove useful to understanding/remembering what is going on. Overall, it's a great series to give to kids to read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Read A great young reader book! I read these as a preteen and still pick them up from time to time. While the movie was very good it couldn't possibly get all of the wonderful parts and emotions that are part of these books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aaron T's Awesome review on THE CAPTURE THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK. I can't get over it. After I finished the first 5 (The Capture, The Journey, The Rescue, The Seige, The Shattering and the Preview of the Burning) I am about 10 times more sensitive about birds especially owls. When ever I see a bird I am amazed- my heart quivers and I say, What a cute little birdie. I'm 11. Note: If you love books of talking animals,Garry Kilworth's the Welkin Weasels Series, Brian Jaques Redwall series, or The Guardians of Ga'hoole Series are the books for you.
