Rated 3 out of 5 by from Our discomfort, ourselves One woman's struggle to deal with the hand she dealt herself; coming to terms and breaking out of her life manifest as cancer. Awakening comes dealing with the consequences and cures of a deadly "dis-ease" and it's connection to a life crying for attention. A useful guide and source of insight for anyone feeling unsettled with their life, not just for those diagnosed with cancer. Written in a straightforward read-in-one-sitting style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not your typical cancer story This is a remarkable story of one woman's decision to question traditional cancer treatment and find the fundamental health reasons causing her condition. Controversial and inspiring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Big Decision ‘Guided to Wisdom’ maps out the author’s encompassing journey to recovery. Following the distressful diagnosis of breast cancer, ‘big decisions’ needed to be made. First came the surgery and the ‘clinical’ side of western medicine. Instead of following the normally accepted procedure for recovery (Chemo and radiation), the author chose to take a different path, one which melds ‘body, mind and spirit’. Spiritual as well as physical healing needed to be accomplished. The extent of her immersion into so-called ‘alternative medicine and approaches’ is impressive. Because the story moved quickly from therapy to therapy as energies were aligned and emotions resolved, it became, for me, somewhat difficult to digest as a whole. Still, I would say for those who wish to keep an open mind in our world, the book certainly has a legitimate level appeal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The importance of becoming your own health advocate I'm not sure I would have the courage to do with the author did when faced with a life-threatening diagnosis, but I applaud her decision to become her own advocate, so necessary these days when it comes to issues medical. Having recently experienced my own medical scare, asking questions and demanding answers--from a wide variety of sources--is what helped me to plan my own care, though I didn't shut out what the medical professionals could provide. This memoir is a must for anyone unfamiliar with how to advocate for oneself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brutally honest and powerful Susan’s book reads like an intimate conversation which is very engaging if you are ready to hear her message. She leads us through the often painful transition from a predictable, but mundane life to one of endless exploration and a new optimism about daily living. I cannot recall an author exhibiting such vulnerability as she examines the bankrupt state she was in when a diagnosis led her to say NO to pleasing other people and NO to believing, without question, what the ‘experts’ were telling her, even before she had any idea how to restore her health. Susan has been able to demonstrate the link between the idea of ‘toxic cell memories’ and the bankruptcy of her personal life as the precursors to a cancer diagnosis. Her quest to find her own ‘truth’ gives this story a very broad appeal and I can identify so many similar elements and struggles in my own life. Her message is basically, ‘Choose a fully aware life or accept the consequences’. The book is not limited to rising above the scourge of cancer, rather it describes her process of discovery that is open to everyone leading to diverse personal, happy outcomes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the inspiration you need What a wonderful book Susan D'agostino has written, it is insightful, mind-blowing and full of good advice. The reader follows Susan's journey from cancer diagnosis to healing and wholeness. She decided to do it her way, the way she felt would be best and healthiest, and in the process discovered her ever-evolving incredible self. One of her struggles seemed to be how to live true to self and counter-culturally at once. What an inspiration for those who have cancer and anyone needing to remember how truly powerful we are.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The True Story Revealed I began reading Susan’s book, with a deep curiosity. Her success story is significantly uplifting about her emotional and physical battle against the disease called cancer. What I found captivating was the true story revealed - the unusual journey Susan travelled to find her road of self-discovery and healing. Oddly, it’s not about battling at all - it’s the exact opposite - the secret key is letting go. Letting loose the chords of gripping fear choking the life out of your soul. Unearthing the buried bitterness scarring you with wounds that won’t heal. Freeing the sorrows trapped in our minds, drowning us with delusions. Whether the challenge is cancer or simply living our lives, these are all common struggles many of us face. Susan writes of how she found freedom and life…her true self. Delight in the discovery and feel the inspiration she shares from her heart. It’s all there on those pages. You will cry, laugh and rejoice, but most of all you will feel that spark of possibility ignite.
