about

He’s a Wall Street wolf. She’s been hired to tame him. From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne comes a wildly sexy novel of business and pleasure.

Twenty-eight and filthy rich, Matt Cannon is the youngest broker on Wall Street. He may be a “boy wonder,” but he’s every inch a man. Ask any woman—any night. But when Matt’s latest fling makes scandalous headlines, his clients get anxious, and his bosses at Wolfe Investments level an ultimatum: keep his assets zipped, get a “real” girlfriend, and clean up his act. Only one woman can help Matt with something this hard.

For PR genius Sabrina Cross, the best fixer in Manhattan, playing Matt’s steady is going to be a challenge, even if it’s just for show. They already have an explosive history, she can’t stand the cocky party boy, and worse—she can’t stop thinking about him. So who’ll dare to break her “no touching” rule first? Because when that happens, Matt and Sabrina’s game of let’s pretend will get so hot it could set both their reputations on fire.

Lauren Layne is the New York Times bestselling author of more than two dozen romantic comedies, including Hot Asset, her first book in the 21 Wall Street series. A former e-commerce and web marketing manager from Seattle, Lauren relocated to New York City to pursue a full-time writing career, hitting the USA Today, New York Times, iBoo...

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious and Mature 4.5 Stars I have read a lot of Lauren Layne books but Hard Sell might be my favourite one to date! Every second of this love story was enjoyable and sexy. The frenemies-to-lovers (as per the author) trope was perfect. Hard Sell features minimal drama but lots of personal growth. Sabrina and Matt's dynamic, even though tense most of the time, was amazing. Anyone who's read Hot Asset, the first book in the 21 Wall Street series, will be familiar with them. These two have the most unique non-relationship- an exceedingly compatible physical relationship but a nonstop bickering friendship. Their familiarity with each other made every aspect of their interaction entertaining and pleasurable. I'm a huge fan of Sabrina's. Despite a rough childhood she's grown up strong and capable. Her thoughts and actions were all so mature. Sabrina puts all of herself into her job and gives all of her heart to her friends. I love the way she owns up to her feelings. Nothing like a little truth to knock some sense into some people. Matt's aversion to commitment is not without valid reasons. While it took him a bit more time to realize what he had with Sabrina was special, he outdoes himself in sincerity. These supposed mortal enemies are actually constant allies. After loving Sabrina and Matt's story my excitement for Kate and Kennedy's book is through the roof! I have all my fingers and toes crossed that it'd happen. Pretty please Montlake Romance, you have to pick it up!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Perfect Enemies-to-Lovers Romance! *I received a copy of this title from the publisher in exchange for an honest review* Ooooooh baby! This romance was total fire and I am now an official fan of Lauren Layne. Hard Sell has all my favourite romance tropes rolled into one and it’s impossible not to fall for Matt and Sabrina’s story. Everything was there from the sexual tension to the undeniable chemistry and the slow burn romance. I love a good enemies-to-lovers romance and this is going down as one of my new favourites! Matt Cannon is one of the best brokers in New York, but he has one major flaw: he can’t keep it in his pants. When his personal life affects his professional one in a major way, he is given an ultimatum: find another job or find a girlfriend. The problem is, he’s not the commitment type. He knows that only one girl can handle a fake relationship without wanting more: Sabrina Cross. The only problem is that they hate each other. Sabrina Cross is the best fixer around. She deals with everyone’s problems and is a master of PR. When Matt comes knocking, she already knows that he wants to hire her. But the only problem is that he doesn’t want her to find him a girlfriend, he wants her. The only thing they can agree on is that it’s a recipe for disaster and their proximity to each other is basically a ticking time bomb. The only rules? No sex and no falling for each other. But as they spend more time together and start to open up about their pasts, they realize that they might not hate each other that much after all. If I had to describe this book, I would say it’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets Scandal. This book is steamy and filled with rage-fuelled lust in all the right places. It also has a great cast of characters and I was definitely smiling a lot while reading. I’m definitely still swooning over Matt and Sabrina and I need more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from volatile chemistry/ enemies to lovers I love a good enemies to lovers trope. However, this one took it a step further and gave me an enemies with benefits story that I couldn’t help but gobble up in record time. Sabrina and Matt were just too electrifying when together and it’s obvious that they either had to argue or screw because of their intense chemistry. And so, for the past four years they’ve had one volatile relationship. It was actually quite charming in a fun masochistic way. Matt’s background was bizarre enough to warp any young man but Sabrina’s was horrifyingly tragic. Yet, watching these two together was pure enjoyment because despite their reasons for not believing in love, you know that’s exactly what’s going to happen if it hasn’t already. It’s just a matter of time before they become aware of it. The banter between this couple was fun and witty, sarcastic and sharp but definitely them in their truest form. They were an original hero and heroine unlike any I’ve read before. While Sabrina was strong, successful and independent, Matt was casual and laid back, a bit carefree in spite of his work ethic. He also turned out to be an amazing jealous, possessive hero and was given the perfect set up to prove it. I would have loved him for sure in that moment if I hadn’t already. I think this is a pretty fast paced read but because once I started I didn’t stop, I can’t say for sure because, you know…gobbling. The characters from the first book make a reappearance but you won’t feel lost if you don’t read it. This one can certainly stand alone. I do love the additional characters and I’m just so freaking antsy to get to Kennedy’s story. The very end felt a bit rushed but everything leading up to it was perfect. I’m not sure what more I wanted, because the epilogue was sweet and highlighted this couple’s dynamic. I think I just wanted more of Sabrina and Matt and was disappointed to see them go. At least until they revisit in the next book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Montlake. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from breath taking HARD SELL is the second instalment in Lauren Layne’s contemporary, adult 21 WALL STREET romance series focusing on best friends and Wall Street investors-Ian Bradley, Matt Cannon and Kennedy Dawson who work for Wolfe Investments. This is twenty-eight year old Wall Street broker Matt Cannon, and PR ‘fixer’ Sabrina Cross’ story line. HARD SELL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual first person perspectives (Sabrina and Matt) HARD SELL follows the fake relationship between twenty-eight year old Wall Street broker Matt Cannon, and PR ‘fixer’ Sabrina Cross. At his cousin’s recent Vegas bachelor party, Matt’s behaviour and ultimately his reputation made headlines in the world of Wall Street investors. Precariously straddling the line between employment and not, Matt is desperate to restore his reputation, in order to rein in the billionaire clientele. Enter ‘fixer’ and PR specialist Sabrina Cross, and the woman with whom Matt will fall in love. What ensues is the acrimonious and fake relationship between Matt and Sabrina, and the potential fall-out as Sabrina wants something more, and Matt is unable to give her what she wants. Matt Cannon doesn’t do love; his parent’s dysfunctional relationship has damaged Matt’s view for a happily ever after. A friends with benefits arrangement with Sabrina, is as close to a relationship that Matt is willing to cross. Sabrina Cross’ childhood was plagued with hardship and neglect a childhood that has burned a hole into our heroine’s heart. When Matt Cannon begs Sabrina to help him clean up his tattered reputation, Sabrina struggles with her growing attraction to a man who isn’t willing to give love a chance. The love-hate relationship between Sabrina and Matt is contemptuous; their acrimonious back and forth is riddled with insults and accusations so much so the emotional fall-out is painful and wrong. As days turn into weeks, Sabrina begins to develop feelings for the man that calls to her heart as Matt reconsiders what it is he truly wants. The $ex scenes are passionate and intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The world building continues to look at the friendships between Kennedy, Ian and Matt, as well as the ramifications and repercussions of crossing the line where Wall Street is concerned. The colorful secondary and supporting characters include Ian and Lara (Hot Asset), as well as Kennedy Dawson, and PA Kate Henley; Sam and Samantha Wolfe, and billionaire Jarod Lanham. HARD SELL is a sexy and sassy story line about friendships, family, heart break and love. The premise is spirited and engaging; the characters are dynamic and energetic; the romance is sensual and captivating. HARD SELL is a breath-taking and delightful addition to Lauren’s 21 Wall Street series.
