Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I can’t even remember how long ago I first read this book — I think it was close to the time when it came out, and I haven’t re-read it since. But this year my local library is doing a Book Geeks Book Club for adults and we are reading all of the Harry Potter books. Last month was The Chamber of Secrets. Again, I was blown away by how much pre-planning Rowling did when she wrote her books. She really knew where they were going as was able to pepper in details that become important in later books. One of the things I loved about this book was the change in tone. The Philosopher’s Stone was full of discovery and magic and everything (pretty much) was wonderful. But The Chamber of Secrets shows a darker side to the wizarding world: we find out about house elves, Azkaban, Kncckturn Alley, the prejudice against mudbloods and squibs, and the history of the Chamber of Secrets. This is also a book where Harry doesn’t feel at home at Hogwarts anymore. He is miserable at home and now he is miserable at school with people avoiding him and making fun of him. This is a fantastic turn of events and adds more depth to the wizarding world. I thoroughly enjoyed re-reading this book and can see again how kids (and grown ups) fall in love with this series — and how current it is twenty years later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get ready! This book will pull you into a fantastical world with magic, wizards and witches. Anything seems possible. The protagonist is an awkward likeable character named Harry Potter who makes friends with humorous Ron Weasley and hard-working Harmione Granger. Together, they conquer any problem set in front of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite from the series The imagery from this novel is amazing and I still have not forgotten it. I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking for an escape from their everyday life, as it really reels you in and I could not put it down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fitting sequel. Despite what other people say about the second book not being so good, I personally loved it. The first one was an introduction to the series: it set the scene, introduced most of the characters, and had a complete adventure in itself. The Chamber of Secrets is more of the same good stuff: the magic, the intrigue, the newness of the magical world to Harry and the reader, but with a slightly deeper storyline, going back in Hogwarts' history, as well as that of Lord Voldemort. The romance to come, the darkness and trouble ahead and Harry fulfilling his destiny all begin here. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love! The HP series is my all time favourite books so I am definitely biased towards them. However, it is so interesting to see the way in which the writing evolves from book to book based on the age and insights of the characters. It really does feel like we're going on a journey as a reader. You can see the evolving of Harry and the way he makes sense of the world from book 1 to book 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Series of All Time This series has been in my life since I was 10-years old and it will forever be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. The world of Harry Potter will never die for me and the books are even more magical than the movies. Every child/teenager/adult needs to read this series because I'm sure they will fall in love with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simply magical! i'll admit that this is probably my least favorite of all the series but J.K Rowling does it again as she casts her spell and draws you back in to the beautiful world shes created
Date published: 2017-08-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from a must read When I was in elementary school I actually read this book before the first one and I still thought it was absolutely amazing. My mind had never been properly exposed to the extraordinary world of magic before these books. It was definitely a page turner, I would recommend it to anybody of any age! J.K Rowling is a literary legend and the colourful images she is able to create in your mind is extraordinary! These books are a modern day classic. However, I do prefer the original artwork as opposed to this one, but that would not be a real reason to deduct a star.
Date published: 2017-08-22

Date published: 2017-08-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still great but... Of all the Potter novels, this is my least favorite. It's still really fun but something seems off, as if the whole thing is actually filler before we get back to the main event. Thankfully, it's still has fun to read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My least favourite HP book Still a great read, but my least favourite of the series. I think this is largely because even within the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter, this one is just a little far-fetched.

Date published: 2017-07-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Series Reread I had so much fun rereading this. Knowing how things turn out, it is just amazing to see how much thought Rowling put into this book and brought so many things back later on in the series. The characters are still a bit two-dimensional but we see a bit more of Ron, which is nice
Date published: 2017-07-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good book. If you finished the first book, and were eager to continue on with the following books, the series only gets better from there. Second book does not disappoint.

Date published: 2017-07-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from How much better can it get? Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets wasn't my favorite of the series; it was The Prisoner Of Azkaban. That didn't stop me from enjoying every word of it.

Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good. I didn't like this one as much as the first, but it has kept its' creativity. Definitely still kept me reading though.
Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The second opus as audio book One of the most famous book series in audio book. This is a perfect gift for big and small. A great alternativ to the book, if you are travelling a lot or even to listen to while commuting to work or school. The kids attention will be given for a while.
Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoy the 2nd adventure of Harry Potter with an audio book A great story to listen to with the rest of the family. Of course you can read it loud but the audio book version is great when you are traveling long distances or even commuting to school. For younger and older.
Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great read I may be about 10 years behind in reading the books but they are entertaining and worth the read. It nice how the story continues and to see the three friends blossom and mature. As always, the book is better then the movie.
Date published: 2017-06-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Continuation The Harry Potter series is amazing. Everyone should read it! Although not the best book in the series, it is still a great book #plumreview
Date published: 2017-06-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The second instalment in the greatest series ever As you can tell from the title, I love Harry Potter. The second book was wonderful and touched on some different aspects of Harry's character we hadn't seen yet, like *spoiler alert* when he's in the chamber? We get to really learn who Harry is, and we see his friendship with Ron and Hermione develop. Towards the end it definitly pulls on your heartstrings, and although everyone jokes about how 'Slytherin's Monster' was such a great, big mystery, it really was suspensful, although not scary
Date published: 2017-06-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent great continuation of the book, a fun read
Date published: 2017-06-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic "When in doubt, go to the library." Wise words from a wonderfully written sequel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it bought the full paperback box. The books are really pretty and very good quality. I had never read the Harry Potter books before, currently reading #2. I'm already quite into it. I know a lot of people liked it less than #1, but I like the 2nd book. There's more things happening than in the first book.
Date published: 2017-06-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Book 2 in an amazing series I really liked this book whereas many feel it was the weakest of the series. Great read in my mind!
Date published: 2017-06-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Really interesting, couldn't put it down! #plumreview
Date published: 2017-06-15
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious Keeps in tune with the more innocent magical intrigues of the first book with more humour. It seeps you further in this fantastic world with ghosts, beasts and another interaction with the ultimate villain. Because the characters are still young, this book is still fairly innocent but you can see darker elements lurking in the corners with hints to Voldemorte's murderous capabilities
Date published: 2017-06-11

Date published: 2017-05-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Magical Experience I think it's well known that The Chamber of Secrets is everyone's least favourite Harry Potter book. The reason most likely being that the first half if a lot of retelling and reintroducing, as well as less exciting chapters and scenes such as Nearly Headless Nick's deathday party, and the Quidditch match where Harry is chased by a rogue bludger. There are also more irritating new characters like Colin Creevey and Justin Finch-Fletchly. Still, the writing, and the world and character building are beyond anything else I've ever read in children's/tween literature. And I know that reading this the first time around was quite a magical experience

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than the first one! I think I read somewhere that books 2 and 6 are paired, 1 and 7, 3 and 5, and then the Goblet is a stand alone in the middle as being different in terms of themes and content. I can see why I enjoy 2 and 6 best. They both have "a book" at its centre and I find that fascinating. I think this and the sixth are definitely my favourites.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An improvement when you didn't even know you needed one! After I read the philosopher's stone as a kid, I didn't think the next book could be better, but it really was! The chamber of secrets brings a lot more suspense and much more is also revealed in this one. LOVED it!

From Our Editors

Harry Potter is a young sleuth who attends the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with his friends Ron and Hermione. Nothing spectacular ever happens - they cast a few spells, mix a potion now and then and zip around on their brooms playing Quidditch. But their calm routine is shattered when Harry hears mysterious voices and foreboding messages appear on the school walls. You just know that these spectral occurrences mean that Harry and his friends are in for yet another wild adventure. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets maintains the imaginative standards of other books about this engaging young investigator.
