J. K. (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling was born in Gloucestershire, U. K. on July 31, 1965. Rowling attended Tutshill Primary and then went on to Wyedean Comprehensive where she was made Head Girl in her final year. She received a degree in French from Exeter University. She later took some teaching classes at Moray House Teacher Training College and a teacher-training course in Manchester, England. This extensive education created a perfect foundation to spark the Harry Potter series that Rowling is renowned for. After college, Rowling moved to London to work for Amnesty International, where she researched human rights abuses in Francophone Africa, and worked as a bilingual secretary. In 1992, Rowling quit office work to move to Portugal and teach English as a Second Language. There she met and married her husband, a Portuguese TV journalist. But the marriage dissolved soon after the birth of their daughter. It was after her stint teaching in Portugal that Rowling began to write the premise for Harry Potter. She returned to Britain and settled in Edinburgh to be near her sister, and attempted to at least finish her book, before looking for another teaching job. Rowling was working as a French teacher when her book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in June of 1997 and was an overnight sensation. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone won the British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year, was shortlisted for the Guardian Fiction Award, and received a Commended citation in the Carnegie Medal awards. She also received 8,000 pounds from the Scottish Arts Council, which contributed to the finishing touches on The Chamber of Secrets. Rowling continued on to win the Smarties Book Prize three years in a row, the only author ever to do so. At the Bologna Book Fair, Arthur Levine from Scholastic Books, bought the American rights to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the unprecedented amount of $105,000.00. The book was retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for it's American release, and proceeded to top the Best Seller's lists for children's and adult books. The American edition won Best of the Year in the School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Parenting Magazine and the Cooperative Children's Book Center. It was also noted as an ALA Notable Children's Book as well as Number One on the Top Ten of ALA's Best Books for Young Adults. The Harry Potter Series consists of seven books, one for each year of the main character's attendance at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. All of the books in the series have been made into successful movies. She has also written Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A legendary book! I-LOVED-IT. Is is definitly THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.Its full of emotional moments, full of suspense and very funny! Must be one of the best books in the past century.JK Rowling transports you in the magical world as if you were part of it. I don't want to spoil it for new readers, but you will not regret you read. Also, it would be a lot better to read the whole series before reading this one especially The Half-Blood Prince. As Harry prepares to face his destiny, he will need the help of his two, most loyal friends, Ron and Hermione, to complete Dumbledore's extremely dangerous mission.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Harry Potter = amazing! In my opinion I think that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a fantastic book. The way the author describes the scenes makes you feel like you are apart of the story. It is so vivid. The story is spread through 7 books. In the last book of the series Harry is forced to face the reality that either him or Voldemort will have to die because only one can survive. Losing Mad-eye, ruining a wedding, and having a friend lose an ear was not on Harry’s to do list. He was forced to travel with just a sparkly beaded bag and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione. Searching for horcruxes isn’t all the fun in the world especially since Dumbledore had left them the most confusing hints in the world. To make matters worse in come the Deathly Hallows, one more thing harry must worry about. Harry must do things that most people wouldn’t dare of doing in order to fulfill Dumbledore’s wishes. Secrets are revealed and the puzzle pieces all start fitting into place with a little bit of confusion mixed in. When it comes time for Harry to seek his ending he did not give up or become scared, he wished to leave shameless and knowing he did everything he could. Harry has escaped and cheated death many times but will he be able to this time around? Find out by reading the book! I suggest this book to anyone because it has a little bit of every genre in it. I honestly didn’t think that I would enjoy the series but it is very hard to put down when you start reading. Make sure you read the WHOLE series before you read the last. Who wants to spoil a good book?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST'EST!!! Honestly, if I could give this more stars--I totally would. . I cried. And I laughed. And as much as I "hated" JKR (I mean, c'mon, who could really hate her?!) at times throughout this series, I love her so much right now! Not to sound completely cliché, but this is seriously THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. Like I said...I laughed. I cried. I sobbed. I gasped. I hated. I screamed. I yelled. In other words, I have NEVER felt so much as I did while I read this book. It takes an amazing author to move me the way that JKR did with not only this book, but this entire series. J.K. Rowling, I must say you have done a fantastic job. I flew through this book. I couldn't put it down. There were times that I honestly doubted JKR throughout this book--I remember thinking: "Seriously? You're really gonna do this? Do you KNOW what you're doing?" Well, it wasn't until the ending that I realized she knew (more than any of us could ever have) exactly what she was doing--with amazing results. As a whole, with this series, JKR has created a cast of characters and a world that I know I won't forget anytime soon. Fortunately, I was able to grow up with Harry Potter, so this entire phenomenon that she has created is like home to me, in much the same way that Hogwarts was like a home to Harry. I cannot wait to see what J.K. Rowling comes out with next...I will be eagerly waiting and anticipating...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Final book; amazing story. J.K. Rowling gave us what we wanted: an awesome end. Though it's sad, this book is a good one for tying everything up. It's fast and it never gets boring. I had a difficult time putting this book down, like all the other HP books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never a dissapointment! From one adventure to the next, this book never seems to cease in suspense, action. The chemistry between the characters in palpable. The plot twists and turns and after so much, you would think there would be a contradiciton somewhere but the questions are all answered eventually! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading again!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I absolutely loved J.K. Rowling's last book of the Harry Potter saga. I couldn't put the book down, and I can't wait for the movie version! If it's even half as amazing as the book, it will still be quite impressive :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect end A bit of a departure from the previous books, but not in the least a let down. The pacing gets off to a rocket start compared to all the others as Harry's thrown into things by the first thirty pages. The tension never really seems to give which makes it a great read from start to finish as does the turns and unexpected things Harry, Hermione and Ron find themselves in. One things for sure: you'll want to read it again after you're done then probably the whole series.
