about

The summer holidays are dragging on and Harry Potter can't wait for the start of the school year. It is his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and there are spells to be learned, potions to be brewed and Divination lessons (sigh) to be attended. Harry is expecting these; however, other quite unexpected events are already on the march ..."The saga of Harry Potter and his creator has almost reached the status of myth ... The books strike as deeply as the most timeless fairy tales. Harry and his friends seem intensely real-parents report a frequent refrain of 'they're just like us.'" -Maclean's"A richly imagined world to which young readers will surrender themselves, and one of the most attractive heroes to come around in a long while." -Globe and Mail"Harry Potter is the biggest phenomenon in kids' publishing for decades ... Rowling has taken a classic formula and given it a contemporary (but not too contemporary) twist, where the hero crosses the boundary from the day-to-day mundanity to a world of magic and wonder." -Vancouver SunMore than five million Harry Potter books sold in Canada
J. K. Rowling envisions seven books in the Harry Potter series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Yet The only thing better than one wizarding school is three wizarding schools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite book in the series I thoroughly enjoyed reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I like how J.K. Rowling introduces an interesting set of new characters each book, such as Cedric Diggory, Rita Skeeter, Victor Krum, and Barty Crouch in this one. I love how the story is so complex and has so many layers with all these different subplots to the main plot of the Triwizard Tournament, like Hermione's relentless fight for human rights for house elves. The cover of this new addition is also very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A masterpiece The plot thickens, the story gets darker, the kids grow up, and we're introduced to a whole new facet of the wizarding world. A serious page-turner and a real game-changer. Love it.
Date published: 2017-10-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The plot thickens! This is when the story begins to get darker. I would recommend saving this one until kids are a little bit older as the plot becomes much more intense. This is a major book in the series so hang onto your hats!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this book! I love this book. This is definitely my favourite Harry Potter book. There is so much detail and a lot more in sight. My favourite chapter was the Yule ball and the experience could not have been more magical.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I loved the Goblet of Fire, this was a book that made you start to view the characters as young adults that are becoming increasingly independent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent series Awesome adventures for young readers alike.
Date published: 2017-09-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Cup is here The Goblet of Fire is the book where so much got changed compared to the film adaptation that reading it feels like its own thing. The maze finale to the motivation and backstory on Barty Crouch Jr are much more realized here. Plus the subplot with the house elves is unique to the novel. There's also much more Sirius and is the turning point for the series as it's a lot darker from this book on. #staffreviews
Date published: 2017-09-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always As always Harry Potter is a magnificent series! However, I did find some lag in this book with Ron's sulking, and Hermione's new interest in house elf rights. However, still an amazing book.
Date published: 2017-09-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Book 4 One of the longer books in the series but still wonderful and, of course, full of magic.
Date published: 2017-09-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Edge of the seat action! This book really took the series to the next level! It's realer, darker, bolder! It's nice to see that J.K.Rowling doesn't shy away from these aspects even though the books cater to younger readers as well!
Date published: 2017-09-07
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire I'm not sure if I was just ready for a change after reading the first 3 Harry Potter books consecutively, but I found the Goblet of Fire slow and not all that exciting, that is until the last task hit Harry. The pace really picked up after that.
Date published: 2017-09-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just perfect Simply amazing, every time I read this series it brings me back to my childhood. Love Love Love!
Date published: 2017-09-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG This book is sooo entertaining! It really keeps you on your toes while reading it. I love the excitement!
Date published: 2017-09-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from HP4 I really enjoyed this book. The first time I read it (9 years ago), I didn't enjoy it and I found it to be slow. I still didn't absolutely love it because there is something about the general atmosphere of the book that I found a bit off-putting. It's hard to describe. Nevertheless, the book is great and I picked up on so many different things in the reread. The world and story that Rowling created is beyond incredible.
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brillant! Never a disappointing read. This book was my favorite in the series so far. Full of excitement and thrills. It was magical.
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Brilliant Another can't-put-down, magical, endearing and adventurous book with the golden trio!
Date published: 2017-08-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goblet of Fire Loved the whole tournement idea for the book. I just hated that the other 2 schools were only boys and only girls (and it was said they were mostly all some kind of beautiful fae or fairy) respectively. There should of been at least one more mixed school to show where other girls and boys go to school to learn magic.
Date published: 2017-08-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Series of All Time This series has been in my life since I was 10-years old and it will forever be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. The world of Harry Potter will never die for me and the books are even more magical than the movies. Every child/teenager/adult needs to read this series because I'm sure they will fall in love with it!
Date published: 2017-08-24

Date published: 2017-08-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great read! such a thriller and there is every type of twist in this book!
Date published: 2017-08-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great!! This is sort of different when compared to the rest of the series. I love this book because for the first time at Hogwarts there is no Quidditch. At first I wasn't very interested in that idea seeing as how Quidditch is such an important part in Harry's life while at Hogwarts; but then enters the Triwizard Tournament. Very intriguing and you won't see the ending coming.
Date published: 2017-08-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Has a little more involvement with Quidditch, but still really good (gave 4 stars cause I'm just not a fan of that). Recommend reading for sure

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YES Reading this for the first time in my early twenties, have never been a fan of the movies, but the books I am really enjoying. It's simply written ( since children read these too) but very well written and enjoyable for all ages. Love it
Date published: 2017-08-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome The movie really does not do this novel justice. It is well written and way more in depth than the movie makes out the plot structure. Read the other novels first. But this one, even now after I have ready the rest of HP's journey to rid the world of Voldemort, remains one of my absolute favourites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The story remain captivating This 4th story is as captivating as the previous ones. Harry Potter stays a great story for young and old. Maybe for growing kids would are getting older with Harry's school years. Continue to discover the magic universe of Hogwarts with Harry and his new friends. Take your time and enjoy the fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Harry Potter #4 as audio book A great story to listen to with the rest of the family. Of course you can read it loud but the audio book version is great when you are traveling long distances or even commuting to school. For younger and older. Maybe the price is a little bit high
Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Series I liked the introduction of new characters in this book. They don't just move the plot along, they add to it in intricate ways. The relationships between characters get tested and everything is starting to come together more and more. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big book, big adventure Action packed and so much character development. I love this book and how well it starts to explore the gang's maturing relationships with each other as well as how they start to interact with the magical world around them with a more adult perspective. I also feel Hermione's character starts to become more alive in this book

Date published: 2017-06-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book is pretty angsty Angsty, but it works because of the age of our main characters; I was pretty angsty at 14. I loved the competition aspect, as it gave us good examples for why Harry is truly a Gryffindor. This was the book that also made the threat of Voldemort real, since he was finally given a physical form.
Date published: 2017-06-05

Date published: 2017-04-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth Every Penny This book as part of the series was a departure from the previous three not only in length but also in concept. Without spoiling anything, it's a more strenuous and revealing exploration of both Harry Potter's character, his relationship with friends, classmates and Professors as well as the wizarding world with the introduction of foreign magic academies: French Beauxbatons and Eastern European Durmstrangs. Of course there is an exciting and unexpected twist as per usual and all in the witty, humorous and occasionally revealing and exploratory prose of J.K. Rowling.
Date published: 2017-04-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best One Yet While I loved (#1) The Philosopher's Stone and (#2) The Chamber of Secrets, I felt that (#3) The Prisoner of Azkaban fell a little short of my expectations. The fourth novel in the Harry Potter series, however, reignited my passion for the wizarding world. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a remarkable novel that I would thoroughly recommend to fans of this series. You won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Good This book is leagues above the other three in almost ever conceivable way. The characters go through intricate development, a new plot is introduced that will continue on throughout the next 3 novels, and there is riveting action interspersed throughout. It is obvious that this book represents a pivotal turning point in the series, and I couldn't ask for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my love of reading forever I first read this book in 2002 at age 10 after I had watched the first movie. By that point my sister had the first 4 books and I just had to borrow them to read more in one of the best stories ever written. I spent the next year anxiously awaiting the 5th book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I have re-read the books so many times that some of the pages are falling out in a few of them. Now, at age 24, I still have yet to find a series that I love as much as this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goblet succeeds on many levels The first of the "longer" novels in the Potter heptalogy, Goblet may seem overwhelming at first, but it effortlessly uses its extra page count to delight readers. The story in some ways is a departure from the previous three novels but at the same time completely familiar. The Triwizard tournament provides a series of focal points around which to carry a wholly entertaining tale, which culminates in what is perhaps the most thrilling and dangerous confrontation to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite one in the series This was the first book in the series that I read and got me into the fantastic world that is Harry Potter. Initially my 10-11 year old mind could not understand the hype around it as I watched my classmates borrow books 1-3 from the school library and reserved it for their friends. after they finished reading them. So the year the fourth book came out I bought it. Initially it was because it was on sale and I received a gift certificate so I was like why not let's see what the hype was all about. I could not put it down, I loved the story even though I had not read books 1-3 yet, which I got after I finished reading this one. It is well written and full of imagination, taking readers on a magical journey. #plumreview

From Our Editors

Junior Booklovers Contest Winner Aaron, age 11, Surrey, BCHarry Potter and The Goblet of Fire is a thrilling and suspense-filled story that readers all over the world will enjoy. Harry Potter is an exciting gateway to an enchanted world of magic and curses, truth and lies, joy and sadness. All of this is woven into a plot so realistic that it seems you are there, with Harry, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Harry is back at school again for his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and surprises are in store for him. This fourth book by J. K. Rowling takes the whole series to a new level of suspense and excitement. While the basic plot remains the same - Voldemort sets a trap to get Harry into his grasp to try and kill him and finish the job he started years ago - the twists and turns in this 636 page book will have you so engrossed in the plot that you will probably lose track of time. I highly recommend this book if you are an avid reader, because although J. K. Rowling has doubled the size of this book compared to the preceding ones, she has managed to capture the attention of her fans and keep it, from cover to cover. These books do not need to be sold to the reader as they are a part of a cult that seems to have gained a momentum of its own. One can safely bet that this book, like its predecessors, will be made into a movie. I do recommend, however, that you read the book before going to see the movie, as contrary to popular belief, words are worth a thousand pictures!!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The hype surrounding the release of the fourth Harry Potter adventure was unprecedented in the world of children's literature -- can the book itself live up to it? It depends what you were expecting, and in the end, it's still just a story. But like the three that preceded it, this is a well-crafted and wonderfully imaginative story of action, adventure and intrigue -- it builds on the events of Philosopher's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban and shows that Rowling is proud of the world she's created. Rightfully so.The first sign that this book is going to be somewhat different comes early -- instead of the familiar opening showing Harry trying to survive the summer at the Dursley's, the first portentous chapter shows the dark wizard Voldemort strengthening, preparing for his return to power. After that ominous beginning, the narrative returns to familiar patterns -- Harry's miserable vacation with his Muggle relatives is improved by a hilarious visit from the Weasleys and a trip to the Quidditch World Cup. The scenes at this magical sporting event are marvelously inventive -- thousands of wizards try to keep a low profile among the Muggles as they arrive en masse to camp near a bewitched stadium invisible to non-magic eyes. When Harry, Ron and Hermione finally arrive at Hogwarts, it becomes clear that the school year will run differently, too. Students from two other European wizard academies -- Durmstrang, a thinly-veiled Eastern European school filled with swarthy types, and Beauxbatons, the snooty French school whose students wear silk robes and disdain the "'eavy 'Ogwarts food" -- will be staying at the castle to participate in a long-abandoned inter-school magic competition. Rowling introduces several compelling new characters -- the Bulgarian Quidditch hero Viktor Krum, the muckraking witch journalist Rita Skeeter and of course, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Mad-Eye Moody, a scarred and paranoid veteran of the Auror's squad, the magical world's combination FBI/SWAT team. The themes and events of the book are darker, and more mature, but then Harry and the gang are 14 now. So there are crushes and jealousies, that first wonderful and horrible school dance, and further revelations from the past that both clarify and complicate the battle between good and evil. The plot is more complex, with some unthinkable twists and turns that the magical milieu makes possible and enjoyable. There are some genuine surprises, more dangerous and violent challenges and, as predicted, a death. But however fantastic the events become, the reader never ceases to care deeply what happens to Harry, Ron, Hermione and the others. That is Rowling's genius -- crafting characters so multi-layered and plausible, that, magic or no, we can believe they are real. Ages 9 and up.

Employee Review

A wild ride from start to finish, at 636 pages, this book is not long enough! Rowling takes us on a trip through Harry and friends' jam-packed fourth year at Hogwart's. Fans of the previous three books will adore this one. Rowling retains both her freshness and ease of storytelling, gives us more insight into all of our favourite characters, as well as more background and history of Hogwart's and the magical world. I can't wait for book number five.
