Mr. Rentalov realized his creator, Dr. Sarton, had double-crossed him by putting in a genetic chronometer causing robot death. The chronometer was causing his sponge brain to deteriorate. The process was irreversible. Dr. Sarton had no intention of letting the robot live forever, and Mr. Rentalov was dying. At the current rate of decay, his sponge brain would be dead in less than a year. The only solution would be to build a robot replacement.

Mr. Rentalov dreamed of building a quantum computer robot. The QC robot would be able to predict super-large sets of possibilities and see and compute all of the possibilities. Mr. Rentalov knew his own shortsightedness had caused his demise when fighting Positron. The QC machine would have to figure out which of all the possibilities provided the best probability of success. In essence, the machine would use other dimensions to process an answer. The QC robot would be capable of deciding if an algorithm halted or ran forever, so the QC robot would not get caught in a recursive loop. The QC was an infinite machine. The infinite machine was a new idea.
