Great story
A different story from the space race that didn’t directly involve the astronauts. Nice to learn more about everything that went into it.

Could have been better
There's only so much wiggle room when writing a non-fiction book, but man! This was so dry at times, and there is little sense of chronology. The intelligence of the women, their dedication and just the plain ol' ability to do extremely complicated mathematics with only pencil, paper and a slide rule under immense pressure (miscalculate= lots of people die) so much promise here!
The book, for me, failed to draw me in. These are some incredible women, but the book didn't really bring them to life in the way, for example, A Beautiful Mind humanized John Nash.

Great story
I really enjoyed learning about these women and their counterparts in the journey to taking man to the moon. The book was very detailed and informative, sometimes too much, it was almost like there was just as much filler material as there was to the base story.

Great read, great price.
I became interested in this book after watching the movie. It provides a lot more detail and character development vs the movie. A decent sized book for a week vacation or gift to a mid-late female adolescent who aspires to succeed in math/science/or a male dominated industry.

Keeping track of names!
Lots of amazing history that is untold about the space race and black history. But as a person who struggles with names, this was a challenging book to get into and finish. Glad I saw the movie first as it helped to keep things organized and give a face to events and the racism that are part of the history.

enjoyed the book- inspiring and thought provoking.
It makes me wonder how many more people were kept out of the history books, because of their gender- or the colour of their skin. And with all the successes of the Civil Rights Movement- why does it feel that the world is moving backward, to where the colour of your skin, your religion, or our many other differences, again determines if you are accepted, and how you are treated.

Important but dry
While I really enjoyed learning the story of the amazing women in Hidden Figures, I found that parts of these novels were dry, at least for me. I love history, but some of the history related to mathematical or engineering aspects of the novel went right over my head. That said, the facts about the women were amazing, and I'm inspired by all the overcame.

So interesting!
I found the subject matter fascinating, including the movie. But the book was a bit hard to follow due to the narrative style. Still totally worth it because it's a shame that we don't know about these amazing women and the amazing intertwined history they shared with the south, the Civil Rights Movement, and the other men and women of the time.

Truly amazing real life story. Glad to see that these women were ultimately recognized for their incredible contributions, but it is utterly shameful that it took so long. It really makes you wonder if the human race will ever learn to be more accepting and open to the ideas and contributions of all, regardless of sex or race...

A Tribute to Unsung Heroines
From the development of American air power during World War II to putting a man on the moon, the author discusses the important contributions of (mainly) black women mathematicians to scientific fields spanning from aeronautics to celestial mechanics. The story begins at a point in time in America where women were not generally recognized as competent for technical/scientific positions and black women had the additional problem of surmounting the serious drawbacks pertaining to their race. The book’s main theme focusses on a few noteworthy black women’s trail blazing contributions to these fields in a background of racial segregation, the civil rights movement and efforts towards integration.
I found the book to be quite interesting and eye-opening – indeed an homage to some of the unsung heroines who have contributed so much towards the betterment of humanity.

Very interesting, but a little dry at times. Though, it's well worth the read as it's very important to understand the trials of women and black people. It's also a very good historical overview of NACA/NASA.
I would highly recommend this for anyone interested in math, aeronautics, race relations, etc.

Powerful
This book is an example of power, dominance, and the fight for human rights. This book was amazing in the sense that it was about NASA and how they couldn't launch the rocket ship without Katherine (who figured out all the math in order for it to be successful), Dorothy (who figured out how to work the IBM machines), and Mary (who became the first African-American female engineer). A beautiful story of how three African American women came together as a team and helped NASA launch John Green into an orbit and guaranteed his safe return.
