Hocus Pocus is beloved by Halloween enthusiasts all over the world. Diving once more into the world of witches, this New York Times bestselling two-part young adult novel, released on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the 1993 film, marks a new era of Hocus Pocus. Fans will be spellbound by a fresh retelling of the original film, followed by the all-new sequel that continues the story with the next generation of Salem teens.

Shortly after moving from California to Salem, Massachusetts, Max Dennison finds himself in hot water when he accidentally releases a coven of witches, the Sanderson sisters, from the afterlife. Max, his sister, and his new friends (human and otherwise) must find a way to stop the witches from carrying out their evil plan and remaining on earth to torment Salem for all eternity.

Twenty-five years later, Max and Allison's seventeen-year-old daughter, Poppy, finds herself face-to-face with the Sanderson sisters in all their sinister glory. When Halloween celebrations don't quite go as planned, it's a race against time as Poppy and her friends fight to save her family and all of Salem from the witches' latest vile scheme.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YES! Witch, Please… The incredibly adored story of Max, his sister Dani and Allison coming together on Halloween night along with the help of their new friends, Binx a black cat and Billy a friendly zombie. To save the town of Salem from the Sanderson sisters. Winifred, Sarah and Mary, witches that have been dead for 300 years. Until Max, a virgin lit the black flame candle. Fast forward 25 years from the night the Sanderson sisters were defeated. Poppy, the daughter of Max and Allison has never believed her family’s story from that Halloween night, over two decades ago. To prove the tales fake and have some fun of her own. Poppy along with her closest friends make some bad decisions, bringing the Sanderson sisters back from the afterlife, again! With so much at stake and only having until sunrise. Poppy and her friends are frantically racing against time to save their families, friends and all of Salem from the coven of Witches. This Halloween will be another to add to the Dennison family tales. ....... I know I am late to the game with this review. I had EVERY intention on getting to this HUGELY anticipated read of mine before Halloween. We all know how that goes, right? Always a plan, but there is always more and more books to read. Ahhh…. living the life of a book nerd!… (It’s AMAZING) I finished this book last night and LOVED it! 5 out of 5 stars. There is so much contradiction with this read and I personally don’t understand it. Reading part one “Hocus Pocus” brought me right back to the 90’s. I could see the movie playing through my head while reading it. It was everything I could hope for. Now, The Sequel was just as brilliant. I love how the lead up to the sequel was incorporated into Hocus Pocus itself. It fit perfectly and made the anticipation for part two build and build. I was sceptical at first, of course. The beloved characters from the movie are everything! and I was not sure if the book would live up to that. Prove me wrong, again! I loved the characters just as much, both old and new. I recommend this book to everyone! Hocus Pocus lovers and all. Ohhh!… And only for the ending to give a glimpse that there may be more to come! So exciting. Thanks for reading! I love having you hear. – Your fellow book nerd Nichole

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Happy birthday Hocus Pocus! Hocus Pocus has turned 25! Time flies. I’ll be honest, it’s probably been at least a decade since I last watched this movie - so the finer plot points are quite fuzzy. Luckily, this book has it covered. The first third is a straight novelization of the film, which is a great refresher. The second part is Halloween 25 years later (so - now) and the Sanderson sisters are back! This story was so entertaining, creative and fun. It definitely held on to the tone of the original film - I could picture Bette Midler letting loose with Winnie’s lines. And there was some really positive LGBTA representation, which I LOVED. The main characters are teens and they were solidly written. The adults were a bit more flat, but I’m almost assuming it was intentional - it’s clearly aimed at a younger audience. Overall, the book was great, but I struggled with the point-of-view in the ‘now’ part of the book. It kept switching between first person and third, depending on who was the focus of the chapter. Every time it switched it threw me a little, and pulled me out of the story. BUT! The ending makes up for my struggles. A cliffhanger! Which means.. potential for more HOCUS POCUS!
