about

This holiday, spend quality time with family and loved ones—living and dead . . .

There's no place like home for the horrordays—unless you'd prefer a romantic midnight walk through a ghost-infested graveyard . . . or a haunted house candlelight dinner with the sexy vampire of your dreams. The (black) magical season is here—and whether it's a solstice séance gone demonically wrong with the incomparable Kim Harrison, a grossly misshapen Christmas with the remarkable Lynsay Sands, a blood-chilling-and-spilling New Year's with the wonderful Marjorie M. Liu, or a super-powered Thanksgiving with the phenomenal Vicki Pettersson, one thing is for certain: in the able hands of these exceptional dark side explorers, the holidays are going to be deliciously hellish!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from An Ordeal To Get Through! Usually when I pick up an anthology to read I get at least one story I enjoy, but this was not the case with this book. The Kim Harrison story was about a young Rachel before she joins the IS. The Lynsay Sands is a sequel to the story she had in Dates From Hell. The Marjorie M. Liu is a weird tale of a supernatural agent who gets attacked by a hopping demon (a vampire) and the Vicki Petterrson story is about the Zodiac warriors. I felt like I needed to know the back stories to these novella's in order to understand them. By the time I made it to the last page I was relieved that it was finally over.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Holiday Theme is Too Thin A nice set of short stories (novellas), though I must say that I was a little disappointed at the supposed holiday theme of the stories. I think all, except for Lynsay Sands' story, could really have taken place at any time of the year. The holiday themes really seemed to be more a part of the background than an actual element of the story. Kind of disappointing, but if you're a fan of any of these authors, it's still worth a read. Otherwise, for a good mix of supernatural and a specific theme (birthdays!), I'd recommend "Many Bloody Returns" by Charlaine Harris et al.
