David Sedaris's beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favoritesas the diaries of a Macy's elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris's tales of tardy trick-or-treaters ("Us and Them"); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French ("Jesus Shaves"); what to do when you've been locked out in a snowstorm ("Let It Snow"); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations ("Six to Eight Black Men"); what Halloween at the medical examiner's looks like ("The Monster Mash"); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry ("Cow and Turkey").

No matter what your favorite holiday, you won't want to miss celebrating it with the author who has been called "one of the funniest writers alive" (<_st13a_place _w3a_st="on"><_st13a_state _w3a_st="on">Economist).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Santaland This is definitely not an appropriate stocking stuffer for just anyone. But for those of us whose Yuletide experiences have traditionally been served up with large dollops of dysfunction and lashings of irony – and possibly an elderly relative falling into the Christmas tree – Sedaris's dark humour and wit make this a pleasantly cathartic sleigh ride.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not What I Expected The first story, SantaLand Diaries, is the only story i thoroughly enjoyed. I thought it was funny and entertaining and it is his most well known out of this collection. The rest of the stories I must say were kind of weird. If you're thinking of picking up this book during the holidays to get into the holiday spirit I would say to choose another book. The stories are definitely not what i expected and though i find each of them pretty interesting, there aren't any deep meanings that i could pick out and I think in a few months I will forget most of it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Holidays on Ice I really find David Sadaris entertaining and plan on reading pretty much anything he has but this one was a little on the odd side with what seemed to be fictional stories of selfishness, greed and madness in the mix, I'm getting it but weird.

Editorial Reviews

"A writer comparable to Mark Twain or James Thurber. You have to go back a ways to find someone to compare David Sedaris with; his talent is so huge it just doesn't come around that often."-Melissa King, Raleigh News & Observer
