Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT How do Dinosaurs....series are very much loved in our home. This one was the first one we got and since then we have collected most of them and read them regularly. We also not like to gift these to other little dinosaur fans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great book This series is such a great one. This time a book about how not to go to bed, and what you should do at bedtime

Rated 3 out of 5 by from How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? (How Do Dinosaurs...?) I suppose it is not surprising how many children's books are illustrated in a simplistic, spare, or at best cartoonish fashion. And that's fine, of course: art doesn't have to be complicated to be good. What surprises me is how many children's books - even children's books bearing impressive looking award seals - have illustrations that might kindly be described as abstract, but would more likely described as "ugly" by the average 6-year-old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever Illustrations and Wonderful Writing My kids and I LOVE Yolen's "How Do Dinosaurs..." book series. The illustrations are hilarious and the messages have an immediately positive impact you can use in "teachable moments". I love to reference to these books when I need to remind my kids how to act or handle themselves - then we laugh together and recite examples from "How Do Dinosaurs...."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great book My daughter loves this book. We've read it each night before bed for at least 6 months (yes, I am a bit sick of it but she isn't) - she now names each type of dinosaur on each page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a hoot! I first spotted this book in our local library, where two children (about 5 years old) were laughing at the wonderful illustrations. Their mother sat and read to them, and they were absolutely taken with the catchy rhythm, the very funny and witty illustrations, and the fact that they could both identify with bedtime woes! The dinosaur demanding a piggy back ride has the most incredible look on his face - hilarious! I bought 3 of these books - for all my nieces and nephews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming and witty A delightful read, I especially enjoyed the vibrant illustrations and active prose. The rhyming text really helped carry the story along and is a lovely addition to bedtime stories.

From Our Editors

Kids are kids no matter what their species, as Jane Yolen proves in this bedtime story to end all bedtime stories. Children will giggle in recognition at the dinosaurs that thump their tails in displeasure at having to go to sleep and smile at the ones that like to end the night with a hug and kiss. Ideal for children who love dinosaurs but are ambivalent about sleepy time, How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? has plenty to its credit: mainly, the singular artwork of Mark Teague. This crafty illustrator infuses the pictures with his customary good humour and obvious affection for children in scenes that work hilariously: huge dinos such as T. Rex and Pteranodon look sublimely funny in ordinary human bedrooms. And children will like seeing themselves in the babyish behaviour, too, such as when the snake-headed Apatosaurus swings its head about in a tantrum and when the Stegosaurus obediently turns off the light with his tail. With 10 dinosaurs in all, listed in the end-papers and with clues to the identity of each in the illustrations — see the building blocks that spell out “Pteranodon” — children will enjoy the story that comes before bedtime so much, they may forget what comes after it!
