Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "How to Seduce a Vampire (Without Really Trying)" by Kerrelyn Sparks. Book 15 in the Love at Stake series. At first, I was not very excited to read this book. It's about Zoltan, a vampire who has been mentioned in a few of the other books but not a lot has really been said about him except that he's the vampire Coven Master of Eastern Europe. He just kind of pops up in the books every now and then when the MacKay Security and Investigation vampires need his help. Well I'm glad Zoltan got his story told because I enjoyed it very much! Zoltan is tired. And he's lonely. He's been around for 800 years. He's been helping his friend, Angus MacKay, head of MacKay Security and Investigations, fight the Malcontents all over the world. Now they are fighting against Master Han, an evil vampire that wants to take over the world. But what Zoltan really wants is to find answers. Answers to who killed his father. The only clue he has is an arrow with unique markings on it. So when his friend Russell has an arrow just like it, he has to know where he got it. But Russell won't tell him. In desperation, Zoltan grabs Russell as he teleports away and now he finds himself closer to the answers as he has ever been. While searching for his answers, he didn't think that he'd meet the woman of his dreams...and that she'd beat the crap out of him!! Neona is grieving for her twin sister. She's starting to question her life and what really matters to her. She is a warrior woman, her mother is Queen of their people. After an attack from a vampire, Lord Liao, there are only six of them left. So a decision has been made...find a suitable man, get pregnant, and then kill him. Men are good for nothing but impregnating anyway and they are forbidden from living in their sacred valley. At least, that is what Neona is supposed to think. She doesn't think that way anymore, since her sister had to give up her baby because it was a boy. When she meets a stranger in the forest, he seems to be a good choice to get her pregnant, but she doesn't want to kill him afterward. Why can't she just let him go? What if she ends up having a baby boy and has to give him up? Can she take that chance? I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story line was very great. At first I thought it was going to be all "I am woman, men are useless" kind of Amazon stuff, but Neona's character is not like that. She questions her society's archaic rules because of events that have happened to her sister and herself. Her character's development throughout the book is fantastic as is Zoltan's. His character grows from a lonely vampire that is living his life but not really paying attention to what is going on with people around him to a vampire who finds something in life to really live and care for. The ending of this book was really interesting but I will say I found myself a little frustrated. I thought what happens to Zoltan at the end is amazing, but all the characters don't seem that impressed and then the book just ends! It was still a really good ending though. And I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
