A harrowing, remarkable poetry memoir about one girl's struggle with anxiety disorder. This is a true story of growing up, breaking down, and coming to grips with a psychological disorder. When Samantha Schutz first left home for college, she was excited by the possibilities -- freedom from parents, freedom from a boyfriend who was reckless with her affections, freedom from the person she was supposed to be. At first, she revelled in the independence. . . but as pressures increased, she began to suffer anxiety attacks that would leave her mentally shaken and physically incapacitated. Thus began a hard road of discovery and coping, powerfully rendered in this poetry memoir.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprising Although at first glance the book screams "terrible teen angst" it's actually quite good. The prose is clean and clear. Schutz draws a compelling and -I think- extremely accurate picture of struggling with an anxiety disorder. She writes about the difficulties of being diagnosed, staying on psychotropic medication, and the impact of her anxiety on her everyday life. For sufferers of anxiety disorders, "I Don't Want To Be Crazy" is a book you can relate to quite well. For someone looking to better understand anxiety, it's an eye-opener and a must read. My only complaint is that the poem style of the book can be rather annoying. It reads better as a short novel.
