Beautiful Specimen And Excessively Rare. Written at one of the most trying periods in the Commodore's life. The letter is signed in Paul Jones's bold handwriting, and contains a long postseript also signed, in his characteristic hand. Early in 1779. Paul Jones became the hero of brilliant exploits in European waters. In September of this year he made his celebrated eruise in the "Bonhomme Richard," which excited great alarm along the shores of Scotland. Towards the close of this eruise oceurred the noted fight between the "Richard" and the "Serapis," which ended in the latter striking her colors. Jones's squadron was however left In a erippled condition, and he was foreed to put into "Texel," a Dutch port, where he received the protection...
