about

Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies, housed in a Gothic mansion on the bleak northern moors, is elite, expensive, and unwelcoming. When Evie Johnson is torn away from her home by the sea to become the newest scholarship student, she is more isolated than she could have dreamed. Strict teachers, snobbish students, and the oppressive atmosphere of Wyldcliffe leave Evie drowning in loneliness.

Evie's only lifeline is Sebastian, a rebellious, mocking, dangerously attractive young man she meets by chance. As Evie's feelings for Sebastian grow with each secret meeting, she starts to fear that he is hiding something about his past. And she is haunted by glimpses of a strange, ghostly girl—a girl who is so eerily like Evie, she could be a sister. Evie is slowly drawn into a tangled web of past and present that she cannot control. And as the extraordinary, elemental forces of Wyldcliffe rise up like the mighty sea, Evie is faced with an astounding truth about Sebastian, and her own incredible fate.

Gillian Shields's electrifying tale will dazzle readers with suspense, mysticism, and romance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Bad I found this read to be simple. Simple reading, simple style, just very easy to pick up and read or put down and forget. The story was only so so and i never really connected with the characters. The story follows Evies life, and Agnes' life (Told in diary entries about every second chapter). Evie comes to Wyldcliffe School for girls and soon finds herself disliked, and constantly in trouble. here she meets and gets to knwo Sebastian, a boy whom she can only meet at night. She soon discovers magic, and kinship with two girls she would have never thought possible.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dreaming of Books Review With Immortal I was expecting an intense gothic romance. What I got was a story that is set in modern times with a heavy gothic presence but lacked on the romance front. Immortal is set at Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies which is a private boarding school located out the in moors of England. The school and the surrounding areas really had a gothic feel that I loved and it added to the mystery of the story. While at Wyldcliffe, Evie meets Sebastian who is dark and mysterious. The romance between Evie and Sebastian was rushed and developed too quickly. Evie knows practically nothing about Sebastian and whenever she tries to find out more about him he gives her vague answers or changes the topic completely. Another thing that bothered me about Sebastian is that he and Evie only meet at night when its dark and no one else is around. So he’s obviously hiding something about himself and there’s more to him than meets the eye. Scattered throughout were Lady Agnes’ journal entries which I knew somehow intertwine with Evie’s story. The ending sets everything up for the next installment, Betrayal, coming out later this summer.
