Book three in the hit series that's soon to be a major motion picture!
Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. Only Ruby can keep their highly dangerous prisoner in check. But with Clancy Gray, there's no guarantee you're fully in control, and everything comes with a price.

When the Children's League disbands, Ruby rises up as a leader and forms an unlikely allegiance with Liam's brother, Cole, who has a volatile secret of his own. There are still thousands of other Psi kids suffering in government "rehabilitation camps" all over the country. Freeing them--revealing the governments unspeakable abuses in the process--is the mission Ruby has claimed since her own escape from Thurmond, the worst camp in the country.
But not everyone is supportive of the plan Ruby and Cole craft to free the camps. As tensions rise, competing ideals threaten the mission to uncover the cause of IANN, the disease that killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others with powers the government will kill to keep contained. With the fate of a generation in their hands, there is no room for error. One wrong move could be the spark that sets the world on fire.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great series Well, this is it. The end of another series. Saying goodbye to Ruby and Liam and all their friends. It was great and heartrending and a nice tidy-up for the series, but I'm not entirely sure we left them in a good place. I wanted more than what I was given, but maybe that's just because I love these characters too much. I didn't feel like much happened in the first two-thirds of the book. The last third was everything I could have asked for - heartrending in the best possible way, with strong character growth and decisions and all sorts of interesting things happening, but the majority of the book had none of that. The pace was a bit off. I love how real this book feels, in the sense of the world building - the internet and the foreign relations and the multiple groups of people - parents and civil rights groups and news sites and politicians and doctors - working together (as opposed to the one rebel group storming the corrupt government by itself). As a Canadian, I loved the role Canada played in helping to save America. Seriously, in a lot of post-apocolyptic books, it's like the U.S. is the center of the world and because it's having issues, the rest of the world can't be bothered to go on. It was really nice to see that sort of perspective not happening, and GO CANADA! Then there was Ruby and Liam. Gosh, I love these guys. I love all of the characters - Cole, and Chubs and Vida and Cate and Zu and all of them, and they all had their moments to shine - but Ruby and Liam. Happy sigh. All of the characters were amazing and human and they all had their moments that tugged on my heartstrings and made me cheer for them and it was just - great. Loved it.

Editorial Reviews

The conclusion to the Darkest Minds series is as tense, emotional, and brutal as one would expect. When the book begins, Ruby and the survivors of the attack on Los Angeles are on the move again, with a very important prisoner in tow: President Gray's son, Clancy. Ruby and Clancy share a mind meld that affects much of the book's almost nonstop action, but it is her relationships with brothers Cole and Liam that will most intrigue readers. The plotline has plenty of twists, up until the last page, but without divulging too much, it's safe to say fans will appreciate the well-thought-out conclusion. Ilene Cooper-Booklist Online
