Rated 3 out of 5 by from usual infected horror story, but is gory This is one gory and gross "infectious invaders takeover" book. Would I say I liked it? Don't know because I really couldn't tell anyone it was a good book, because it was GROSS!!! A LOT of gore...literally after Scary Perry is infected...it's a fast down hill coaster ride from here kids. For example, <spoiler> Perry cutting out the growths, detail descriptions of how he destroys them, ok the genitalia part (gross gross WTF gross), chicken scissors (you know something gross and bad is happening with that), Fatty Patty's hatching (gross gross again) and the torture and kill of Bill Miller and other victims... </spoiler> The story line is the usual a "strange virus" has infected some and they start torturing, mutilating and killing their loved ones. One CDC doctor (and her groupies), a tough "I don't take s%&t from anyone cop and an infected ex football player run around trying to figure out what is going on? We get povs from all 3 main characters. I read the last 5 pages quickly, because I really wanted to return it back to the library. It was ok, but a bit too gross for me. Not for any readers who have a weak stomach or heart. I like horror and being scared, but I was more grossed out than scared. Probably won't be reading book #2 or book#3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Infected Infected and its sequel Contagious are absolute must-read material for anyone who enjoys a blend of macabre and humour. Scott Sigler is adept in his illustration of societiy's reactions to subtle alien hostilities, and the consequences of holding to closed minds. I will never look at triangles the same way ever again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very well done horror I had been hearing a lot about this book so I decided to pick it up. I wasn't too sure what to expect, though I knew it obviously had something to do with weird triangular growths and such. What I ended up getting was just the right mix of body gore horror and suspenseful science fiction horror. Sigler handles both kinds of horror very well within this novel as it follows two main characters throughout their handling of the infection. One is trying to solve what is happening, the other is more concerned with dealing with the fact that he IS infected. It's a very good means of telling the story from two different points of view, and allows for a nice build of tension later on. The only problem later on is that the story seems to take a stronger view towards the infected character later on rather than keeping the mix equal as the story went on. The mystery of the triangles was handled really well, keeping their full purpose a secret almost until the very end of the book. Sigler handles the evolving horror of the growths really well, dealing with them with an almost scientific pen early on and later turning it into something far, far more personal. Combined with the gore/body horror, this makes for a very uncomfortable read at points as the infection continues to grow. Honestly, there's nothing I could think of to make the entire infection process any better. It just works well, and brings about a very personal level of horror that will wig anyone who reads it out. I won't go into details about the end, and though I personally think things got handled a little too easily, it does set up a sequel really well. However, I think a lot of the chatter from the infected character and one of the agents, sort of ruined what could have been an eerily disquieting conclusion to this story. It feels as if Sigler should have left the reader to work it out on their own rather than just flat out stating the very creepy aspect of the infections. In the end however, 'Infected' was a creepy read that had me turning the pages, wincing and setting it down during certain parts, and had me glued to the mystery of the triangles. All in all, I would recommend this to pretty much everyone.

Just when I thought I knew what abyss he was leading me across, he knocked the bridge out from under... I think I screamed the whole way down... Infected is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.”—Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match“Fraught with tension . . . Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets The Hot Zone.” —Rocky Mountain News“Sigler is the Richard Matheson of the 21st Century…smart and creepy, Infected is a flawless thinking-person’s thriller. Bravo to a bold new talent!”—Jonathan Maberry, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Bad Moon Rising and Ghost Road Blues“Riveting . . . even hardened genre fans will find themselves whimpering at each new revelation.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)"Horror mavens rejoice! Infected is a revelation -- a novel that lives up to its hype. From page one, the story of a mysterious smart-virus that turns its hosts into deadly drooling drones creeps up on a reader like the ratchet of a roller coaster climbing toward its inevitable crest. Sigler brings the folksy character detail of Stephen King, the conceptual panache of Clive Barker, and the oozing, shuddery pathologies of a David Cronenberg movie. Zombies, spies, conspiracies, and gallons of goo make this the fastest read in the west! Highest recommendation!"— Jay Bonansinga, national bestselling author of Shattered, Twisted, Frozen, and The Sinking of the Eastland"Sigler has a unique talent for keeping readers on the edge of their seats; I absolutely had to know what was going to happen next. Infected is full of mayhem, action, and gore--and you won’t be able to put it down."— Dave Wellington, author of 13 Bullets and the Monster Island trilogy"Scott Sigler's Infected is a bucking pulp pony that throws you this way and that, and just when you think you've got your balance, that ole pony bucks the other way. All in all, one hell of an exhilarating ride, and highly recommended." —Joe R. Lansdale, World Horror Convention Grand Master and six-time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Bubba Ho-Tep and Lost Echoes"Infected is as unnerving as a scream in a morgue…a breakout novel that gets under your skin. If the voice in your head is Sigler's, you're locked in for a very scary night."—E.E. KnightFrom the Hardcover edition.
