Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Fun Affair Infernal Affairs is the fourth installment in Battis` OSI urban fantasy series. It begins with what must be the best opening sequence yet in the series. Tess Corday, an occult investigator, and her team need to get to the non-occult morgue quickly. It seems that one of the bodies there appears to be a dead child, but is really a demon. And it’s most likely not dead. It’s in everyone’s best interests to make sure an autopsy never even starts. The scenes in the morgue are fantastic, fast-paced, and full of new and unexpected things. Unfortunately, the book doesn`t quite live up to the standard set by the opening, but it is still a really good read. The story has just enough action to keep things from slowing down, but its real strengths are in the relationships between the co-workers, friends, lovers, and adopted family. Battis doesn’t hit you over the head every five seconds with dramatic violent action, instead he uses science, magic and snappy dialogue to keep you turning the pages into the night. This is a series by a Canadian author that is definitely worth checking out. 2011-024
