about

Gene has taken control of his pack after the devastating loss of his father. He has been preparing for this his entire life, but nothing could have prepared him for the brewing war, or the beautiful alpha female, Talia. Enemies are everywhere and Gene must fight to protect his pack. He wants to trust Talia, but it's hard to trust anyone--especially when they are related to your adversary.

Talia trusts no one. If she had it her way, she would take her son and run far away from everyone. But she knows she won't get far with her psychotic family after her. Going against her better judgment, she teams up with Gene to stop her families tyranny. As they begin to work together, Talia finds herself falling for the alpha. The thought of trusting Gene terrifies her, and she can't help but wonder if he will betray her too.

Into the Unknown is the second book in the Werewolf Wars Series.

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3.5 stars- a lot of repetitive phrases INTO THE UNKNOWN is the second storyline in Bethany Shaw’s adult, contemporary, Werewolf Wars paranormal series. This is new Alpha male Gene Harris and female alpha Natalia’s storyline. Most of the characters from the previous storyline play important secondary roles in INTO THE UNKNOWN and no one is safe from the death and destruction in a war for supremacy and domination between the packs. This is as much a story of a building relationship as well as family forced into a war-not of their making. The premise of this storyline is the upcoming war between the packs. In the previous storyline Natalia, along with several other females, were rescued from the Fernando Juarez wolf pack whose focus is to repopulate their wolf pack with alpha males. Juarez’s wolf pack wants revenge and they will take down everyone and every pack that stands in their way-the problem-Juarez is Natalia’s grandfather. With Natalia as the number one target for recapture, Alpha wolf Gene finds himself drawn to the angry she-wolf whose goal is to keep her son safe and escape at the earliest opportunity. The relationship between Gene and Natalia is difficult in the beginning as Natalia views all wolves, especially alpha males, as the enemy and continued to play the blame game and victim at every opportunity - in this she was initially a difficult character to like. Natalia is a reluctant wolf who continues to push down her inner beast as a form of denial of her kind. As the storyline progresses, the ice around Natalia’s heart begins to thaw when she realizes that not all wolves are the epitome of evil and that Gene is willing to go above and beyond to help Natalia and her infant son. But keeping Natalia safe is a dangerous proposition as the pack begins to discover how far Juarez is willing to go to get Natalia back. INTO THE UNKNOWN is a slow building storyline that pulls the reader into a family formed by the bonds of blood, friendship and necessity. As the war escalates they will lose one of their own only to discover that they may have a traitor in the pack. There is one particular issue with the writing that became very apparent early in the story-the author’s continuous use of certain actions, phrases and observations- ‘licking his/her lips’: ‘floral and sea salt scent’: ‘pine scent’ -it did not affect the storyline premise or overall enjoyment but it was disconcerting. I don’t know if the author realized how overused these particular character observations had become but at one point the action of ‘licking one’s lips’ appeared in three consecutive paragraphs –one after another. Alpha or beta readers should have picked up on the repetition throughout the entire storyline. Bethany Shaw writes a story where the alpha male is all about the protection of the pack; the protection of his mate; and the protection of their kind. This is a story of betrayal and sorrow where the enemy is blood and, family are the people who have your back. If you are a fan of the paranormal shifter storyline, then Bethany Shaw’s Werewolf Wars will be a welcome addition to your reading line-up.
